the earth moved

i am reading a book called "The Earth Moved" by a woman named amy stewart and so i have been obsessively thinking about my amy stewart. it is no replacement for me to even try to have a phone - letter writing relationship with her. i want the real combo meal deal of living up her ass again. we were the ultimate best at living/working/breathing/eating/sleeping together non stop for ever. and now i think of her endless and the summer is coming and we had the best summer ever last year and i need a good solid, more than a day long dose of this one so so so soon.....

this book about earthworms is making me obsess. i want pet worms like oscar the grouch (and my mom), and everything i eat and everytime i take a step on the ground (and im doing one of those things all the time) i realize how much earthworms affect our life. and i'm not totally insane. you see, Charles Darwin's last book, and most widely read during his lifetime, was on the topic of worms. he is of the opinion they are the SINGLE most important species alive on this planet, evolutionarily speaking. that is a huge, big time, ultimate, monstrous statement to make. and im beginning to think he is right.

now for the most amazingly creepy and grotesque part of the book so far (most of the book is just generally interesting, but i adore the creep). in Australia there is a species of earthworm that ranges for 7 to 10 FEET in length. i repeat 7 to 10 FEET in length. that's gigantic. that is huge. that is a beast. moving on, they reside in borrows 30 feet below the surface. Earthworms secrete a mucus as they move (also when they are scared and having hemaphrodite sex) that acts as lubrication. Due to the monstrous size of these creatures, when they travel through their burrows it can be heard as a deep and loud gurgling from the surface of the ground....so, you are going on a walk and hear and feel the vibrations of this huge magnificent beast slithering through the ground. oh, wow.

see, earthworms are the best!
