Of Tin Cups and a Lack of Whiteboards

Dec 28, 2010 03:05

In the unlikely event that anyone is reading this, hello! This is a not-so-quick clarification in case anyone is wondering about a story I started called Raise Your Tin Cup. If you don’t know or care anything about that, move along, nothing to see here.

I started Tin Cup last summer and got a quarter of it posted. Then my life turned into an episode of House, and I had very little time for anything. I shelved the story and most of my LJ time in general in favor of procedures that didn’t actually tell me anything other than that I would soon have another medical bill. I was disappointed that a whiteboard was never involved in this process.

But now I’m starting to feel better, and I’d really like the chance to write again and hopefully finish Tin Cup while I’m at it. However, it’s been so long since I was able to work on it that I’ve lost the original flow of the story. And I think trying to shoehorn the remaining sections on would only do it a disservice, at this point.

So here’s the plan: I’ve set the two parts I had originally posted to the ‘private’ privacy setting. I will keep the posts, however, so as to keep the comments on them. Then I’m going to take a careful look at everything I’ve got and see if I need to rework those two sections to ensure they fit with the later parts of the story. (I think the second part is probably fine, but the first one may need some work.) Whenever I finish this thing, I will post the remaining six sections, edit the first two entries as need be, and then reopen those two.

As I’m sure it looked like an abandoned story, I doubt many people read any of it anyway. But in case anyone did, and wants to know where it went, that’s what happened. If someone has some (unlikely) burning need to see either part, just PM me and I’ll be happy to send you a copy or something. This isn’t about me trying to snatch the story away, but about my not wanting people who haven’t seen it yet to have to reread parts if I end up changing them. Because that just gets confusing, and I feel badly enough about the folks who have already seen the thing.

As an aside, I might post other, unrelated stories while I chip away at Tin Cup. I’m guessing I’ll need to mull the latter over for a while before it starts to come together in my head again, anyway.

Many thanks to all of you who read my first story, and especially to everyone who left such kind feedback. During the past half year it’s been really nice to have the thought that I might be able to write again for such a great group of people.

So that’s the scoop. Comment if you have any questions, although I can’t imagine what those might be. Requests for the best hot chocolate recipe ever, I suppose? I have few other useful skills, so if you need a working thermonuclear reactor by tomorrow, you should seek assistance elsewhere.
