Gossip Girl's Blake Lively looks stunning on the May cover of Allure magazine. Here's how to re-create her sexy smokey eye in six easy steps.
1. Prep the lid. The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease is to kept eyelids oil-free. Start with a primer. We like Trish McEvoy Base Essentials in Sand ($24 at Nordstrom).
2. Apply eyeliner. Apply black liquid liner above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. We love Benefit Badgal Extra Black Waterproof Eyeliner ($20 at Benefit).
3. Apply light base color to lid. The key to a smoky eye is pairing a lighter base with a darker hue. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone.
4. Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it's time to get the smoky effect. Using an eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. We love Chanel's Quadra Eye Shadow in Smoky Eyes ($56 at Nordstrom).
5. Blend dark color on bottom lashes. The key here is to smudge the color into the lashes. Try a cotton swap to get the sexy smudge effect.
6. Finish with several coats of very black mascara. We love
Cargo's TexasLash.
