[x]Disclaimer: Not my toys, im just borrowing them =D

AN - SORRY that this update took SOOOO long!!! I've finished school and had final exams, as well as a lot of partying and i've been sick a lot too, but you don't want to hear me rambling, you want the story, so i'll leave you with another SORRRRY, and i hope you enjoy this chapter =D

AN2 - Lol, just a note the first part of the story is a tad boring, its sort of filler and showing whats going on, even though we know from the ep (but i've changed things round a bit, like Mick isn't involved, well not that Beth knows about) but it gets better at the end, so bare with me =P

Beth Turner was struggling to keep her enthusiasm contained, she was working her first case in front of the camera, and it was going well, she had dragged Steve, her cameraman, along begrudgingly this morning to look for the dead girl’s car, and they found it, much to Steve’s chagrin.

Beth simply smiled and asked him to run it down, to which he replied he would, and he would get back to her.

She was now sitting at her desk, buzzing with excitement, when her boss walks up to her with a wide grin.

“Two hundred thousand unique visitors on your vampire story and we posted it less than 24 hours ago. The vampire angle was genius. Did you come up with that?” Mo asked as she rounded on Beth’s desk.

Beth smiled to herself, before replying “Yeah, it just kinda came to me.” yeah she lied, snorting to herself with the reality of the situation, that vampires had somehow held a relevance in her life since the age of 4.

But mo seemed to take it in her stride and Beth listened intently to her boss give details about blowing this story up, Beth rolled her eyes and chuckled lightly, mo was always one for the wacky and out there stories, the weirder the better in her books, maybe that’s why she got on so well with her boss, they both had a wild streak.

“What’s your next move?” mo asks, turning to where Steve had just whistled from behind her.

Catching Steve’s eye from over Mo’s shoulder, he motions to a pad in his hand, Beth guesses it’s the information on the dead girl he retrieved from her parking permit and she stands before speaking, “Steve got the dead girl's address from a parking permit. I think I'll take a look around.”

Beth grabs her purse, phone and keys before making her way out of the buzzwire office, laughing as she hears Maureen speaking to her retreating form “Don't think, go! Mama needs fresh content.”

-----------

On the drive to the girl’s apartment Beth lets her mind wander over the last 24 hours, she remembers seeing and talking to a man that reminded her of the man that had saved her when she was little, Mick St John, her mother had told her his name was, she remembers the calm she felt when she saw him and then she sheer panic that dawned over her when he literally disappeared without so much as a puff of smoke. Shaking her head Beth pulls up to the street, finds a park and turns the engine off.

Unbuckling her belt Beth sits for a while to take in the surroundings, she waits for the last dregs of the cops to pull away from the scene before leaning over into her glove compartment and pulling out her lock pick set, stealing it away in her pocket she exits the car and moves towards the front door, with one more sweeping look at her surroundings she quickly gets to work on the lock and picks it with ease.

“Nice one turner” she praises herself as she stealthily slips in the now open door and shuts it behind her.

Pulling out a flashlight she starts to look around the apartment, the whole room is shrouded by black and purple cloth, hanging from the windows and the bed, the walls a dark purple and all surfaces cluttered Goth paraphernalia, Beth recognizes the irony, seeing as the girl had two puncture wounds in her neck, before heading over to the desk.

Sticking the flashlight between her teeth Beth quickly makes work of rifling through the draws; she finds a few notebooks covered with ramblings about blood and life and vampirism, the word triggers something in her mind.

Flashes of fang and blood, the roar of anger and pain, the lick of flames

The images and sounds invade Beth’s mind but as soon as she is aware of them, and tries to focus on them, they are gone, shaking her head in annoyance Beth moves on.

Moving over to the other side of the room Beth once more sets to rifling through the draws, her eye catches a something shining the light off of it and it draws her attention. She grabs the pendent and notices it is the same as the one that was hanging in the girl’s car, she grabs her Iphone to make sure, and confirms her suspicions.

Grinning happily Beth almost screams when her phone vibrates to life in her hand, she catches the phone before she drops it and checks the caller ID, noting it’s josh she answers, “Hey, honey.” She says with a smile.

Josh is about to reply but Beth cuts him off, “Josh, I'm in the middle of something right now, can I call you back? Okay, bye.” She says before hanging up the phone.

Taking another quick look around the room, Beth decides that she has got her lead and she is going to go with it. Pocketing the pendent she makes her way to the girl’s door. She opens it slightly and makes sure that the coast is clear, she thinks she sees movement behind a tree across the street, causing her heart to thud loudly in her chest, but as she looks again she sees no one so she quickly exits the apartment and locks the door behind her before making her way back to her car.

-----------

Back at the buzzwire office Beth is sitting at her computer doing research, so far she has found out that the symbol is that of an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic, an insignia for a blood cult. The moment she reads the words her pulse picks up and she has another flash of memory tease at her consciousness before stealthily evading her and returning to the deep recesses of her mind.

Letting out a huff of annoyance, Beth looks more closely at the pendent held in her grasp, she notes it holds a small vile that looks to contain a dark red liquid, her stomach clenches and he immediately knows what it is, blood, but who’s?

Note to self, get the blood tested, oh and figure out what the hell the thing with me and ‘vampires’ is

-----------

After a quick lunch, on the way to which she dropped the vile of blood off with her friend, who just so happens to work in a lab, Beth returns back to the buzzwire office, taking her seat she sees a note stuck to her computer screen, it states the time and place of Kelly Foster’s funeral. Beth checks her watch, notes the time and frantically exits the door through which she just entered.

-----------

Taking a spot out of harms way, but within hearing distance of the funeral, Beth takes note of what is in attendance, Crime Solving 101 “9 out of 10 murders, the killer is someone the victim knew.”

Beth identifies Christian Ellis, Kelly's Social Anthropology professor, who is surrounded by a group of Goth’s, their black attire their daily attire not just garments worn in mourning.

Circling the service Beth listens in as Christian speaks, “We inhabit our physical bodies for what we call a lifetime, but death holds no dominion. Kelly Foster lives as our sister in blood.” Beth holds her iphone in front of her and manages to take some snaps of Kelly’s classmates as they look upon the coffin.

Beth notices a man wearing a long coat watching the funeral from the other side of the service, he seems familiar, she quickly looks down to her phone for a moment, and prepares to take a picture of the man but when she looks up again he is gone, she remembers the man last night had done the same thing, been there one moment and gone the next. Was this the same man? Beth feels like she is being watched, but it doesn’t unnerve her, she does not feel threatened in any way, and once more makes a mental note to herself to try and figure out just what happened the night before.

Once Beth has got the pictures she needs she makes her way silently from the service which she notes is winding up, not wanting to face questions about why she is there she quickly walks away from the crowd, but not before she hears and sees one of Kelly’s fellow students attack the professor.

Beth snaps a few photos before quickly making her way back to her car. Once seated in her car Beth emails the photo’s of the girls to Steve and asks him to compare them with the school year book to try and identify the girl.

-----------

Steve identifies the girl as Chloe Jones, and Beth finds where she works, as a waitress in a Diner near the school. After a quick meeting with the girl Beth learns that Christian thinks he is an honest to god, or would that be the devil, vampire. He runs a ‘study group’ which Chloe says is more like a cult, where the usual cliché’s occur, chanting, candles, blood drinking, the works.

After a quick conversation with herself, Beth decides that she wants to know more about Christian’s ‘teachings’ so she looks up his lecture times and decides to go to the next one, which is in two days time. A quick search on the Professor turns up he has written a book, which he recommends reading if you are too attend his lectures, entitled “The Mythology of Darkness” by Professor Christian Ellis.

Checking the time Beth decides to grab a bite to eat and then head to the library to see if they have a copy of the book available, grabbing her purse and laptop she heads out the door.

-----------

With her hair in braids, and a cap sitting low on her face, Beth passes as a student and makes her way into the classroom, sitting near the back she grabs her notepad and a pen and takes note of the other students filling the room.

Silence falls as Christian makes his entrance, the girls in the room all seem to swoon, and even some of the boys have a look of awe on their faces. Beth turns her attention to Christian as he begins to speak, she pretends to take notes as he speaks, but instead her mind wanders to her dreams from the night before.

the woman in white drops from the ceiling, the veil of dark hair surrounding her face falls with her, hiding her face from Beth’s eyes. Beth cowers in the corner but the woman slides over to her, reaching out to touch her, Beth shivers as the woman’s fingers feel like ice caressing her chin.

A man appears, Beth looks to him but his face is hidden in the shadows, she tries to move to him but she is held back in a vice grip by the scary woman, Beth lets out a cry and the man steps forward a little, the light of the lamp he is holding falls on his face for a second and Beth’s sees his features for the first time.

Brown curly hair, caring eyes, he is here to save her, he is her knight in shining armour, he is Mick St John.

She is shoved roughly to the side and scampers off to the corner, whilst her back is turned she hears animalistic growls, she tries to drawl through the walls to escapes but ends up huddled in the corner, her head buried in her knees affording her only slight flashes of sight.

She sees teeth, too long to be human, and eyes too white to hold life.

And then everything is red, she lets out a scream as blood is shed and she quickly covers her eyes with her hands, blocking out the world.

Moments of madness pass and then there is silence. Beth chances a look and finds the man covered in blood walking towards her, she is surprised at her reaction, she wants to make sure he is ok, wants to ask him if he is hurt, but all that escapes is a terrified sob.

The man kneels and offers her his hand, he speaks assurances of her safety and she believes them, he reachers for her and she goes to him, instinct telling her he won’t hurt her, he will never hurt her.

She goes to him, she is safe.

Being jarred back to reality by the shuffling of chair and feet Beth realises the lecture is over, she wonders why this dream had been different from the rest. She had seen her saviour’s face for the first time, and it was the first time she had dreamt about her kidnapping without waking up sweating and screaming.

Pushing her thoughts to one side Beth stands and makes her way to the front of the room, psyching herself she takes a deep breath before making her way to Christian and speaking in a young voice, “That was an amazing lecture” she starts, deciding that Christian was the type of person that liked to be told just how brilliant he was.

His response of a mere ‘thank you’ cements Beth’s thoughts and she finds it hard not to snort at the man’s arrogance, Christian makes to move away so she engages him in conversation once more, “Hey, I'm Kate Nelson; I just transferred down from Berkley” she says whilst thrusting her hand out.

Christian takes her hand and she is surprised to feel warmth in his limbs, she mentally chuckles, what was she expecting, the cold skin of a vampire?

“Welcome” Christian says in a cool voice, the hairs on the back of Beth’s neck standing on end at his tone.

Deciding to mention his book, which she found rather mundane and boring, she speaks once again, “I read your book, ‘The Mythology of Darkness’” she says in an enlightened tone.

“Well, that's more than I can say for a lot of my students.” Christian replied, Beth bites her tongue to stop herself from replying that she is not surprised no one wanted to read the book, and instead continues to ‘woo’ the professor.

With a quick quote from the book, Beth found the professor turning his full attention towards her, Beth grinned and decided to push her luck, apparently it was her lucky day and she had soon talked her way into attending Christian’s study group.

-----------

With her hair tied back in a ponytail Beth follows a fellow ‘study group’ member through the back halls of the school, her pulse picks up as they head down a flight of stairs and along a darkened corridor, she questions the man and he says something about it all being “part of the ritual”, Beth decided to go with it for now and follows.

A few moments later and the young man brings Beth through what looks like a boiler room and Beth once more voices her confusion about their surrounding, the man doesn’t answer and Beth, for once, doesn’t push.

Walking for another few seconds Beth hears Christian’s voice filling the warm air surrounding her, he is once again talking about vampires, with a few more steps Beth gets her first view of the ‘study group’ and is not surprised to see every member decked out in black and blood red clothing.

Christian quickly welcomes Beth, by the name Kate, and then continues to talk about sexual intercourse (slightly inappropriate Beth thinks) before quickly ending the lesson and sending the students away, leaving Beth even more confused.

Christian makes his way over to Beth and she shivers slightly at the way he is looking at her, his stare making her uncomfortable, Beth however puts on a brave face and remains where she is.

“Kate, I’m so glad you could make it” Christian says in a tone that once more puts Beth’s senses on high alert.

“It seems like I missed it, I thought I was supposed to be here at 11” Beth counters, holding her arms crossed in front of her chest in a defensive position.

“Well this is your first session, and I like to get a little one on one time with my students” Christian continues.

Yeah I bet you do Beth thinks, but wisely does not verbalize.

Beth mentally swallows the bile that feels like it has risen in her throat and nods in agreement, “okay.”

Christian makes to grab her hand and Beth is not surprised to find the flesh warm, not cool like one would expect from a vampire. Christian doesn't let go of her hand and Beth has no choice but to follow as he leads her over to a couch at the side of the room.

Beth quickly sits and Christian immediately pulls a chair to sit in front of her, once more a little close for comfort, and Beth immediately feels trapped. Shaking off her fears Beth watched in confusion as Christian puts his hands, palm up, out in front of him.

Christian instructs Beth to do the same with her hands, except to put them palm down right about his, slowly Beth does as she is told, all the while her heart rate increasing in fear, this man truly did seem insane.

Beth sits and waits for something ‘magical’ to happen as she sits with her hands stupidly held out above Christians as he speaks about ‘the ancients’ and ‘energy.’

This is fucking ridiculous Beth muses, but goes along with it, answering “maybe” when Christian asks her if she can feel ‘it.’ Beth wonders what ‘it’ is and then decides she would rather not know.

Beth closes her eyes as instructed and nearly flies out of her seat as she feels Christian place a hand to her breast, or rather her heart, but still much to close for comfort, and Beth immediately feels the press of the microphone into her breastplate, unfortunately for her, so does Christian.

Deciding to try and distract Christian Beth breaks out into a grin, “are you kidding me, this actually works for you?”

It didn’t work, “what do you have under there?”

Play dumb Beth “huh?”

“What do you have under there?” Christian asks as he presses his hand more firmly onto Beth’s chest.

Beth now starts to freak out, “get your hands off of me” she says sternly whilst trying to remove the offending hand with her own but failing.

Christian pushes Beth back until she is lying on the couch and Beth begins to panic even more, “get off” she says louder, thrashing her arms and legs around trying to keep Christian at a distance.

She managed to kick Christian but this only serves to anger him more as he grabs for her blouse and rips it open, he sees the microphone and once more lunges for Beth’s chest, “are you recording this? Who are you? Answer me” he says as he tries to grab the microphone off of Beth’s bra, while Beth frantically tries to fight him off.

While Christian is distracted by searching through Beth’s bag for the recording device she quickly kicks him hard in the side and knocks him off his feet. Leaping off the couch Beth makes a run for it and runs, shirt open, out of the room and back the way she came until finally reaching the outside door and running through it like a woman possessed.

As soon as she is out the door Beth hears her name, well her supposed name, Kate, being called. The fact that the young man from before seemed to be waiting on her, or guarding the door, should have been a warning sign for Beth but in her heightened state or physical arousal her mind passes over this fact and just sees him as someone to help her.

“I need to call the police,” Beth begs holding the man at arms length, “do you have a cell phone?”

“Yeah, ah, in my car” he says and Beth follows without question.

The pair make it to the car and Beth quickly grabs the offered phone and tries frantically to dial 911, she gets to the second digit before feeling a slight stab in her left shoulder and then all but collapsing into the man’s arms.

Everything was a blur after that she remembers being put into a car and driven, babbling incoherently and somehow managing to ask “why are you doing this” the answer to which seemed to go in one ear and out the other and not stopping in between to give Beth time to understand what was happening to her.

All she knew is that the passing streetlights seems to grow more and more blurry, until Beth felt like she was in a blender with light particles, she mumbles something about “destiny” before there was what seemed like an explosion from the other side of the car and glass showered over her.

In her groggy mind Beth could see two figures righting, one seemingly inside the car… and one not, was he flying next to the car, running maybe? Beth didn’t know, but she was going for this man, even though he seemed to be making the car crash into every other car in the vicinity.

After another moment of fighting the car crashed once more into something and then the man on the outside went flying, Beth looking up and saw a light post headed towards her and soon she was rocket forwards in her seat as the car enveloped the pole.

Growing ever more groggy Beth’s head lolled back and she heard a ringing in her ears, or maybe that was a siren or a car alarm, she didn’t know, or care, she was suddenly feeling really tired, so she decided to close her eyes, just for a moment.

A familiar voice roused her from her slumber and Beth’s eyes opened momentarily, long enough to see the young man stab the older one, Beth couldn’t see his face but the hair looks familiar. Soon she was picked up and her head fell back as she was being carried away.

She got a glimpse of the man’s face and smiled, it was him, the man from 22 years ago, her savior; once more Beth felt safe, being held in familiar arms.

Beth let the calling darkness take her.

-----------

The woman was there again, hanging from the ceiling, and then Mick came again, Beth tried to warn him, to tell him where the woman was, but before she could speak the scary woman had fallen from the ceiling and landed on him.

Mick tossed the woman off him like a rag-doll and soon she was back on her feet, stalking her way towards Beth as she stood stock still in freight.

The woman touched her shoulder, then her cheek, her hands cold, her voice colder as she cooed to Mick, “just you me and baby” Beth heard and a shiver fell over her body that had nothing to do with the coolness of the woman’s touch.

“No, I won’t let you do this” Mick said and Beth smiled, she wouldn’t mind him for a dad, after all her dad was already up in the sky, but she didn’t want the woman for a mum, she already had a mum, and she wanted to go back to her.

Little Beth’s eyes started to well with tears and she looked at Mick, pleading with him to do something, and he did.

Mick pounced on Coraline, careful to avoid hurting Beth as he knocked Coraline off her feet.

Mick slightly pushed Beth and said, “go” as if telling her to run, but her legs carried her no further then the closest corner of the room before she fell and hugged them to her chest.

“I’m sorry,” she said to Mick who was still watching her, before she let out a scream as the woman pounced on a distracted Mick.

The scene played out before her now in slow motion. She could see every detail, every flash of light when it reflected on a fang, every drop of blood that was shed and every crease on the scary woman’s dress as she fought with Mick.

They fought and fought, neither getting the upper hand and neither backing down, they were stuck in limbo until the woman half bit and half kissed Mick on the mouth, Mick returned the gesture and Beth’s fear rose, was the woman going to win?

As soon as Beth’s heart rate and fear rose at the sight of the two before her, the woman and Mick, their mouth ground together, Mick pulled back and shook his head, as if trying to clear it, he seemed to chastise himself and looked once more to Beth as if seeking forgiveness.

Beth gave it, she didn’t say anything but she didn’t need to, the look in her eyes said more to Mick then any words ever could.

Within seconds the woman was on the floor, not moving, something sticking out of her chest, Mick was standing over her panting, with his head hung low for a moment.

Beth waited a moment but neither the woman nor the man moved, she Beth tried to move, on shaky legs she stood and made her way over to Mick.

Beth hugged his leg and he looked at her with eyes full of tears, his fangs still stuck out from his quivering lip, his skin held the pallor of death and his eyes were white like ice but Beth had never seen anything more beautiful in her short life.

Raising her arms to Mick Beth asked for him to pick her up and he did, she hugged him tightly, throwing her arms around his neck and pushing herself so hard against him that it was like she was trying to mold their bodies together as one.

Mick held her back, his strong arms enveloping her as he stepped over the unmoving body at his feet and made his was across the room, to an unbloodied surface and collapsed on the floor, still holding Beth tightly in his arms. Sobs once more racked his body.

Beth cried with him, their sobs echoing each other’s until both felt a sense of calm fall over them. Beth looked up and saw Mick looking down at her.

Raising a small hand, ever so slowly, Beth traced her fingers over Mick’s cut lip. Mick didn’t dare move, he just watched as Beth discovered his face with her fingers. When she made to pull his lip up, to look at a fang Mick turned his head away.

Beth dropped her hand and spoke softly “I’m sorry” she said and once more she was on the verge of tears.

Mick noted her tone and turned his face back towards her, he grabbed her small hand in his much larger one and raised it once more to his face. He gave Beth a nod and she continued to explore, but she stayed away from his mouth.

Mick took a deep breath, more to calm himself then for his need of oxygen, and slightly opened his lips, raising his own hand to hike his top lip at the side up to show a fully elongated fang to Beth.

Beth started at him in wonder; Mick stared back at her in equal wonder, as she showed not a hint of fear as she raised her hand to lightly trace his fang.

Mick shuddered and closed his eyes, a slight purr escaped his chest and Beth giggled, the slight movement causing her careful finger to slip slightly and slice a little on Mick’s fang.

Mick’s eyes opened instantly as he smelt and tasted the drop of blood that had escaped Beth’s finger and now sat trapped between his fang and her flesh.

Mick made to pull away but Beth’s hand followed his mouth, as if in offering she held her finger out to him, Mick didn’t know what possessed him at the moment but he lightly took the tiny finger in his hand and pressed a kiss to the tip of it, stealing away the blood and at the same time sealing the tiny wound.

Beth smiled before retracting her hand and replacing it around Mick’s neck as she laid her head on his shoulder.

An unknown warmth spread through Mick like a wildfire as the tiny drop of blood entered his system, he noted not the unusual blood type, but the complete innocence, trust and love, yes love, for him that it held. He was overwhelmed and another single tear fell from his eye.

The pair sat in silent contemplation for a few minutes, finally Beth broke the reverie with a yawn, and Mick noted she was nearly asleep. Standing quietly Mick turned for the door, purposefully not looking at Coraline’s body, for fear he would take pity on her, and made his way to the door.

Picking up the lantern on the way he through it back over his shoulder as he and Beth made a stealthy exit from the room that would soon be engulfed in flame.

“Can we go home?” Beth sleepily asked Mick, quickly opening her eyes and looking over his shoulder as the flames licked the walls of the room and lightened the dark night sky.

“Yes sweetie. I’ll take you home,” Mick whispered before whisking Beth off to his car.

“I won’t tell anyone,” Beth said as Mick wrapped a blanket around her and placed her in the passenger’s seat of the Mercedes.

Mick shook his head in wonder before dropping a kiss to Beth’s head, “thank you.”

Beth woke from an enlightening sleep with a feeling of safety and warmth surrounding her. Opening her groggy eyes Beth noted she was on a couch, wrapped in a warm blanket, and still fully clothed.

Letting out a yawn Beth looked around the unfamiliar room and wondered where she was, she didn’t feel an ounce of fear though even though she could not figure out where she was, or how she had got there. Somehow she knew she was safe.

“Hey there” she heard a familiar voice call form behind her.

Beth closed her eyes momentarily before opening them and seeing the back of a man walk past her and head over to the opposite armchair and sit down.

When he looked up at her and made eye contact Beth felt her heart skip a beat.

“Mick” Beth said in wonder, Mick’s eyes shot open; he had never told her his name.

“What did you just say?” Mick asked completely gob smacked.

“Mick” Beth repeated, before sitting up and turning to face him. “You’re Mick St John aren’t you?”

“Ah, yes, Mick St John Junior” Mick replied, wondering how one earth Beth knew his name, and wondering if she knew just who he was, hoping that if she did know about her rescuer all those years ago that she was believe he to be his own son.

“Junior?” Beth asked, looking over Mick’s features, amazed at how much he looked like the Mick from her past.

“My father was Mick St John Senior” Mick offered, hoping Beth would believe him.

“Was he a PI?” Beth asked, her head suddenly clear.

“How did you know that?” Mick asked, suddenly fearful of just how much Beth remembered about her rescue.

“He saved me,” Beth said in a wistful tone, a longing taking over the tone of her voice.

Mick sat and watched Beth’s reaction, deciding to cut her line of thinking short he replied, “He died, a few years ago.”

As soon as the words left his mouth Mick regretted them, Beth’s face fell and the feeling of heartbreak that flowed from her over him was palpable enough to make him sit back in his seat.

“Oh” Beth said sadly, “I didn’t know he could die,” she said softly to herself, although Mick overheard it and took in a shocked gasp of breath.

“Why would you think he couldn’t die?” Mick asked

“You heard that?” Beth asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

“Good hearing” Mick said offhandedly.

“Are you like him?” Beth asked, deciding a different approach was needed.

Mick took a steadying breath, wondering just what exactly Beth meant by “like him”, he decided to make no assumptions.

“What do you mean, like him?” Mick asked shifting uncomfortably in his seat.

Beth decided to play it safe, if Mick Junior didn’t know what she meant, then that most likely meant he didn’t know about his dad, and it was not her secret to tell.

“It’s a secret,” she whispered to herself, Mick once again heard her but didn’t let on this time.

“Oh nothing, I just meant as you like him, as in a PI” Beth said covering quickly, “I mean, coz you obviously saved me” Beth said motioning to the apartment and her safe place on the couch in her blanket cocoon.

Mick smiled a dashing smile that made Beth’s heart leap, “like father like son” she whispered once more, Mick’s own heart would have skipped a beat at that moment, if it still beat that is.

“Ah yeah, it kind of runs in the family” Mick said deciding to take the out Beth had given him.

“Like strong genes?” Beth asked with a soft smile.

Mick raised a questioning eyebrow to which Beth explained, “You look exactly like your father.”

“Oh, you remember him?” Mick asked, digging for information.

“Not fully until a few moments ago” Beth replied, her answer further confusing Mick rather then answering him.

“Did I trigger your memory or something?” Mick asked softly.

“Something like that” Beth replied with a smile.

Silence fell over the room as Mick and Beth simply looked at each other. Beth wasn’t buying the whole father and son thing anymore then Mick was, but if Mick wanted her to think that, then she would, at least for a while, she had been through enough in the last 24 hours without adding the fact that vampires are real and that she wasn’t simply having outrageous dreams to the list!

“So ah, what happened to me?” Beth asked after a while, her mind still foggy as to how she ended up in Mick’s stylish loft.

“It’s a long story” Mick started, softening his words with a smile.

“I’m not going anywhere” Beth replied before leaning backwards into the couch and getting herself comfortable, awaiting Mick’s version of event for the last 24 hours… or 22 years, but Beth didn’t think he would offer up the latter just yet, if ever.
