26-year-old Beth turner was excited as she finished her first live report with her sign off, “this is Beth turner, for Buzzwire” she looked to Steve, her cameraman, who gave her a thumbs up and she smiled.
“Really? I was okay?” she asked handing him the mic and pulling nervously at her cardigan sleeves.
“Oh yeah. Total Amanpour. I mean, no one would even know it was your first live web cast” Steve replied with a smile, which Beth returned happily.
Turning her head to look at the body Beth summed up her chances of getting closer, without turning to Steve she spoke, “we gotta get a shot of the body.”
Steve chuckled slightly, he knew Beth was like a dog with a bone when she got on a story, and he figured that just because there was police tape and cops around they weren’t going to stop her getting what she wanted, he decided to voice his opinion, “Nah, the cops won't let anyone get close.”
Beth rolled her eyes and spoke quickly, “I'm not leaving without my money shot.” She then paused and thought over what she had just said, before continuing “Oh my God, did I just say that?” she asked with a blush and a shake of her head.
Steve nodded and Beth’s blush deepened, Beth looked up and spoke, “I've become a news whore of the night.”
Beth caught sight of Lieutenant Carl Davis and missed Steve’s quip, as she quickly strode over to the aforementioned cop.
Putting on the charm Beth smiled and spoke to the older man, “Lieutenant Carl! Come on, what can you tell me?”
Carl rolled his eyes and spoke firmly, “Let's see Beth...” he said before pausing for a moment to add effect and continuing, “nothing!”
Beth was not one to give up so she changed tactic, if the charm wouldn’t work she would go for the quid pro quo angle, “Come on, I was first on scene. Who fed you the location on the 10/7 freeway shooter?”
Carl let out a frustrated sigh and Beth internally jumped up and down in satisfaction, she knew she had won him over.
Carl spoke and Beth took in all he said, “Alright, fine. We think she's a Hearst college student. She had a mask and a tattoo on a very discrete part of her anatomy.”
“Front or back?” Beth butted in, mentally tracing the possible locations of a discrete tattoo on a body.
Her moment was taken from her as a bunch of other reporters crowded in on the scene and took Carl’s focus from her, Carl immediately slipped back into his ‘no comment’ role and Beth knew she had gotten all she could out of the man, for tonight.
Beth looked around quickly and noted that no one was guarding the body; Carl looked rather busy fending off her fellow reporters so she decided to chance it. Quickly removing her shoes and carrying them in her hand, the blond reporter moved to the edge of the police tape and quickly ducked under it, before walking though the cold water of the fountain to where the dead body lay.
Taking out her iphone Beth quickly snapped a few photos before she heard Carl’s chastising voice telling her to “step away from the body.” Deciding that she had pushed her luck enough for one night, Beth took the message and made her way out of the crime scene.
As Beth walked she began to run over headlines for her story, voicing them to the cool night air, “Murder on Melrose...no...Southland student slain.” Beth shook her head, they didn’t seem to pop enough, and then an idea came to her.
“Vampire” she said, her mind snapping back to the twin puncture marks on the dead girl’s neck, she smiled, “Something with vampire in it.” She confirmed to herself before looking up and nearly stopping dead.
Her eyes met those of another. A set of familiar eyes that glistened in the moonlight, they held a warmth that spread through her like a flame licking her body, her hand subconsciously moved to her hip and her fingers traced the ink of her tattoo.
A sudden feeling of familiarity fell over Beth’s mind as she tried to pin point where she had seen these eyes before. She tilted her head to the side and studied the man’s face, he looked familiar, but she couldn’t place his face. Deciding to take action Beth stepped forward and spoke, “do I know you?” Beth asked, continuing to study the man’s face.
“You tell me” the man spoke, and Beth’s heart sped up, she knew that voice, she had heard it before.
Deciding to try and nut out where she knew this man from Beth pressed the issue, “you’re a cop, right?”
“No”
“A reporter?”
“Nope”
“We've met before, you look very familiar.” Beth said feeling very confident in the fact that she had seen this man somewhere before, but for the life of her she couldn’t picture where.
She tried to imagine him a few years younger, thinking maybe he had aged since she had seen him, but nothing worked, his face stirred something up in her that she couldn’t place, it was a feeling of safety, love and kindness, but she also felt fear rearing its ugly head.
“Well, maybe I've just got one of those faces.” The man said and then smiled.
Beth nearly fell over when he smiled, her heart soared and swelled and she felt as if she couldn’t breathe, but it wasn’t a painful feeling, it was one of awe and serenity.
Beth realized she had been staring without speaking and blushed slightly before continuing, “Okay. Question: what do you like better? 'Vampire slaying rocks L.A.-'” she began but was immediately cut off by the honey thick voice of her company.
“There's no such thing as vampires.” He said and it was like a light went off in Beth’s mind as the last word tumbled from his lips.
She stood stock-still and felt as if a bucket of ice had been dumped over her head. Realization finally took full hold of her body as she placed the face of the man behind her. She had seen him the night she had been rescued; he had rescued her. She knew it was impossible, he couldn’t be the man who had saved her 22 years ago, but he could definitely be his twin.
Beth swung back around and was stunned to find the man gone. She looked this way and that but he was nowhere to be seen.
Dread filled Beth’s body and mind as she felt her heart sinking back into the terror of years before. She felt all alone and was suddenly terrified. She had to get away, and fast.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Flashes of white material cut through the darkness
Beth stood in front of her closet with tears streaming down her face, her hands were shaking and her heart was pounding as she tossed clothes and shoes aside looking for comfort.
She had left a trail of destruction behind her as she entered the apartment, draws were opened and their contents rifled through, the storage boxes under the coffee table were upended and dropped unceremoniously on the floor in panic, as she couldn’t find what she was looking for.
Beth pulled clothes from their hanger and tossed them aside, she shoved shoes and boxes from her feet, pulling them open and crying in desperation as none of them held what she was looking for. She tossed them behind her as she continued to search her closet.
a cruel laugh shattered the silence
Her dresser catching her eye Beth made her way from the closet to rifle through the draws of clothes there, opening the draws and pulling the clothes out in haste, and letting out louder and louder sobs as she failed to find what she needed.
Realizing that the dresser didn’t hold what she was looking for Beth made her way back to the closet and stood on her tiptoes to reach the storage boxes on the top shelf.
a malicious voice crooned of a family, you me and baby
Grabbing them he threw them haphazardly onto the bed and started to pull things out of them. Photo albums, old school textbooks, bags, cd’s, blankets, hiking boots, everything and anything were in the boxes except what she needed.
Beth started to sob harder as she felt dread and fear running rampant through her body, her stomach heaving with nausea and her head thrumming with pain. And icy fist closed around her heart as she looked around frantically searching for anywhere new to look, but she couldn’t see anywhere she had missed.
a fight ensued, prey and the hunter, terror reigned
Feeling frantic Beth went back to the closet and looked again, turning over the contents another two times before she heard her name being called.
there was a deadly silence, the battle had been won, and lost
She could hear her name but not tell who was saying it or where it was coming from, her mind was a fog and all she could see were flashes of a white dress and locks of dark hair as she continued looking for comfort and safety.
A hand landed on her shoulder and Beth let out a blood-curdling scream as she turned around and saw a man in her bedroom.
“No, no, no” Beth mumbled through sobs.
He was looking at her strangely and Beth could do nothing but continue crying and screaming, all the while still mumbling, “wrong, not him.”
She was completely terrified, and skitted backwards, away from his concerned gaze, until she was surrounded by strewn clothes and belonging in the bottom of her closet.
Beth continued to ramble nonsense, “Mick, need Mick” as she sobbed harder and harder.
The man made a move to advance and Beth all but tried to climb through the back of her closet in fear as her arms and legs thrashed around in search of somewhere to hide.
The man stopped still and retreated as suddenly as he had arrived.
A moment of calm washed over Beth as she saw the face on an angel smiling at her, he offered his hand and she went to take it, but then he vanished back into the recesses of her memory, and once again Beth was all alone and terrified.
“Mick?” she sobbed into the darkness clouding her mind, she couldn’t see, she couldn’t hear, everything was black, “help me Mick” she sobbed into the darkness that was closing in on her.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Josh Lindsey had been in a good mood until he opened his girlfriend’s apartment door, and found it had apparently been robbed. He thought this strange as the door had still been locked and he had needed to use his key to open it. His heart began to race as he heard a ruckus coming from the bedroom, and he suddenly wished that he owned a gun.
Looking around the strew room he searched for something to use as a weapon but found nothing, he quickly moved to the kitchen and saw that pots and pans had been thrown around everywhere and quietly grabbed the nearest heavy bases pot he could find.
Moving slowly, and wielding the pan as a weapon, Josh sneaked along the narrow hallway to the bedroom and took a steadying breath; he closed his eyes briefly and took another step closer to the half open door.
Josh tightened his hold on the pot in his hand as he opened the door with his other hand and stormed into the room, he had expected to see a man, most likely wearing black, in the midst of searching the bedroom for valuables, instead what he came across was a petite blonde, Beth, sobbing uncontrollably as she threw item after item over her shoulder from the closet.
Josh blinked twice trying to take in the scene, before calling Beth’s name softly; he placed the pot on the ground and looked around the room. It was a mess, Beth had really gone to work on it, panic struck him as he wondered what was going on and he called her name again.
“Beth, honey, Beth” he said, trying to get her attention, but he got no response.
Taking another steadying breath Josh stepped forward and tried again, “Beth, what’s going on, Beth” still nothing.
He tried one last time, a little louder he called, “Beth, Beth it’s me, it’s Josh” but still he got no response, whatever had gotten Beth so wound up was blocking his voice from reaching her conscious thought.
Taking another step forward Josh raised his hand to touch her on the shoulder to alert her to his presence, he didn’t want to startle her so he only touched her gently, but by the noise that came out of Beth’s mouth an outsider would think he was trying to kill her.
Josh immediately tried to calm her, “Beth, it’s me, it’s just me” he said calmly, trying to beak through the haze that had clouded Beth’s mind, but all he got was a terrified response of “no, no, no.”
She didn’t recognize him.
He made to step forward but Beth retreated in obvious fear and Josh felt his heart ache, he didn’t know what to do, Beth spoke again, “Mick, need Mick,” she said, and Beth wondered who in the hell was Mick?
Josh tried again to rouse her with his voice, “Beth, honey, it’s me Josh, your boyfriend, you know me” but he got nothing more then her sobs in return.
Josh panicked and retreated, not wanting to frighten Beth anymore. Now he too was terrified, he had no idea what was going on or how to fix it, then an idea came to him, he headed into the living room to look for Beth’s purse.
Josh found her purse and quickly located her phone before scrolling through the numbers and landing on the one he wanted, he pressed call and put the phone to his ear as he frantically passed up and down, all butt praying for an answer.
He got one, “oh thank god,” he said aloud into the phone, “Meredith, it’s Josh,” he said quickly as he stopped pacing and took a deep breath.
“Josh?” Meredith replied a little confused before realization hit, “oh, Josh Lindsey, hi.”
“Hi, something’s wrong with Beth” Josh blurted out, wincing at his own words; well he definitely wasn’t sugar coating it.
“Has she been hurt, is she okay?” came the worried maternal response from the other end of the line.
“No, she’s fine, well she’s not fine, but she’s not hurt, she’s ah” Josh began babbling and resumed his pacing.
“Josh, calm down, just tell me what’s going on,” Meredith said, trying not to let panic overtake her.
“Beth’s um, she’s torn her place to smithereens, and she doesn't recognize me and isn’t responding and she keeps mumbling something about Mick” Josh said hurriedly.
There was a pause and a sigh on the other end and Meredith took in what Josh was saying, “Josh, did you say she was saying Mick?” Meredith asked, putting the pieces together.
“Yes, something about needing him, I don’t even know who he is” Josh said as he paced back and forth, over the strewn contents of Beth’s living room.
“I do” Meredith spoke softly, her tone indicating that he was not to push the issue at that moment.
“Give me 15 minutes and I’ll be there, and Josh don’t go near her, trust me on this, just make sure she doesn't’ leave” Meredith said as she raced through her house and up to the attic.
“Um, ok, please hurry” Josh said a little bewildered. He hung up the phone and looked at it. The wallpaper was a photo of Beth and he on a picnic, his heart lurched and he put the phone down.
Josh didn’t know what to do, Meredith had said not to go near Beth, but he could still hear her sobbing and the sounds of things being thrown around the room, he sat on the couch and then jumped back up again before sitting back down.
After two minutes Josh looked at his watch and let out a shaky breath, maybe he could just go check on Beth. He stood and made his way down the hallway, he stepped quickly into the room but as soon as Beth saw him she screamed again, said something about Mick and tried to get as far away from him as possible.
Josh immediately left the room and wondered again who this Mick fellow was, and why Beth wanted him. Deciding he didn’t care who he was or why Beth wanted him, all he cared was that she got him and he could calm her down, Josh made his way back to the living room and hoped beyond all reason that Meredith was bringing this Mick person with her.
The doorbell brought Josh out of his ravine and he quickly made to answer it, it was Meredith, but she was alone, Josh’s heart fell until he saw what she was carrying.
“Where is she?” Meredith asked, skipping for formalities.
Josh didn’t object, he just wanted Beth to be ok, “bedroom” he replied and quickly followed Meredith in that direction.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Beth sat huddled in the corner of the closet, her knees pulled to her chest and her arms wrapped around them as she squeezed herself into as small a ball as possible. She laid her head on her knees and shut her eyes tightly as images flooded her brain.
Her memory opened up like a Pandora’s box, Beth let out a wail, willing away the images from her mind.
But they didn’t go; they came back, faster and stronger.
A woman dressed in white, a mass of dark hair flowing down over her pale shoulders, as she waltzed around Beth. Her face hidden in the darkness, flashes of white reflected in her soulless eyes and off her too sharp teeth.
Light flooded the room and Beth was blinded by white. The silence was ruined by animalistic growls and soon the white was bespeckled with red.
Not just any red, but a deep, rich, thick red; blood.
Her vision blurred with tears and her hearing dulled with screams as everything was covered in blood.
The white dress was now splattered with red, a hole ripped in it at the chest by a wooden steak ruining the once appealing attire.
Then in front of her was a man. He was bloody too, he was panting, he was hurting, but he was looking at her with love.
She could see it in his eyes. He was torn between her and the woman in the white dress. His decision having already be made he questioned it. He raised his hand and she looked at it. He willed her to take it, said words that she didn’t hear and she took his hand.
The moment her skin touched his, his eyes changed. He was no longer torn. He picked her up and whisked her away to safety.
The flames enveloped everything, burning, destroying, killing.
Her name was being called again, this time whispered, in a softer voice, a feminine voice, a familiar voice.
It was her mother.
Beth lifted her head, she felt groggy, confused, disorientated. She looked at the woman in front of her but she was still all wrong, she was her mother yes, but not whom she wanted. Tears threatened to overwhelm her again but then her mother brought something around from behind her and suddenly Beth felt safe.
She had brought Mick. Beth reached out and grabbed the stuffed vampire with blinding speed, cradling the toy to her chest as she let out relieved sobs as she let the feeling of safety, love and comfort wash over her.
She was suddenly exhausted. Her limbs felt weak and her eyelids heavy but still she held onto Mick like a lifeline. She let go of her consciousness but never let go of Mick.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Josh remained standing in the doorway, where Meredith had told him to remain, as he watched the older woman slowly approaching her daughter. Josh eyed what Meredith was holding and was confused as to how it fitted into everything, until he saw Beth’s reaction when she saw it.
Apparently the stuffed toy vampire was Mick. Josh let out a sign of relief, that Mick was a stuffed toy, a vampire interestingly enough, and not some other man after his girlfriend.
As Josh watched Beth clutch the toy with desperation he remembered when Beth had first told him about her kidnapping, she had mentioned a stuffed toy vampire, and Josh guessed that this was the very same one. And most likely what she had been looking for and not finding, when she had turned her place upside down.
Beth had calmed and fallen into a quick sleep and Josh let out a relieved sigh.
Meredith turned to him and offered him a small smile, “that’s Mick,” she said pointing to the vampire clutched tightly in her sleeping daughters hands.
“I figured” Josh said shaking his head slightly in disbelief.
“Has Beth, ah, I don’t really know how to ask this without putting my foot in my mouth, but has Beth told you about ‘Mick?’” Meredith asked quietly.
“If by Mick you mean her kidnapping, then yes” Josh smiled reassuringly at the older woman.
“Ok, well that certainly makes this a lot less awkward for me then” Meredith said with a small chuckle.
Both took a moment to take in the mess around them, and their eyes settled on Beth’s form, asleep curled into a tight ball at the bottom of her closet, clutching a stuffed toy vampire to her chest. If Josh didn’t know the reason behind her being like this he would almost say she looked cute.
“Should we ah, get her into bed?” Josh asked, looking as he spoke to the mess that was on the bed.
“Yeah, let’s see if we can find the bed under all this mess first though” Meredith replied quickly, Josh chuckled and thought that yes this definitely was Beth’s mother.
The pair made quick work of the mass of strewn objects littering Beth’s bed, deciding to just dump them on the floor, noting that the whole room, well apartment, would need to be cleaned anyway, and then stood back to admire their handiwork.
“Now comes the hard part” Josh mumbled as he slowly made his way through the obstacle course of clothes and knick knacks that scattered the floor to where Beth was asleep on the closet floor.
He bent down and quickly picked Beth up, all be it a little awkwardly, and quickly transferred her to the bed, noting that Meredith had pulled the comforter back already, he placed Beth onto the bed.
“Mick?” came Beth’s unconscious voice, as she hugged the vampire to her chest with even more force.
“Should we undress her?” Josh asked, and then realized how it sounded, he made to correct his mistake but was cut off by Meredith’s laughter.
“Just down to her undergarments should be fine” Meredith replied, slightly tongue in cheek, smirking at the embarrassed hue that was covering Josh’s cheeks.
“Yeah, good idea” Josh said as he started to undo Beth’s blouse.
After a few moments of manoeuvring around Mick, Josh had managed to undo Beth’s blouse completely and slid it from her arms. Lifting her torso slightly he slid the blouse from under her before replacing her body on the bed and throwing the blouse to the floor.
As he moved to the fly of her jeans he looked up and saw Meredith’s amused smirk, he let out a little cough before speaking, “how about you do the jeans while I ah, put on the kettle?” he offered.
Meredith chuckled and decided to take pity on the embarrassed boy, “good idea” she said before laughing at the speed with which he exited the room, and the fact that he nearly tripped twice over the mess on the floor.
Meredith quickly rid Beth of her jeans and then pulled the comforter up over her daughters’ sleeping form. Leaning down she placed a kiss to Beth’s temple, brushed her hair off her face and stood. Carefully making her way out of the room, Meredith switched off the light and attempted to close the door, only to find it blocked by clothes, and gave up, deciding it easier to leave it open, before making her way to the kitchen.
“I think it’s best to just let her sleep” Meredith said as she took her first real look around the living room, the room wasn’t hit quite as hard by hurricane Beth as the bedroom had been, but it was still a mess.
Josh nodded his head in silent agreement as the kettle whistled, “tea or coffee”? He asked as he made his way into the adjoining kitchen.
“Coffee please” Meredith said as she sat on the couch.
A few moments later Josh returned, two cups of coffee in hand, and placed them both on the coffee table, he stepped over a pile of magazines and joined Meredith on the couch.
Both drank their coffee in silence as they took in the damage around them, and worried about what exactly had set Beth off.
Meredith was the one to break the silence, “has this ever happened before?” she asked replacing her near empty mug on the coffee table.
“No” Josh replied, “and I have no idea what set it off, hopefully Beth will be able to remember when she wakes up though” he added before finishing the last of his coffee and placing the empty mug on the coffee table.
“Hopefully” Meredith replied as she grabbed up her mug, emptied the contents into her mouth and replaced in on the table.
“Well I think Beth will be asleep for a while, and if you don’t mind I would like to stay until she wakes up” Meredith spoke, looking to Josh and smiling at the worry she saw in his eyes.
“Of course” Josh responded.
“Well then, how about we start the clean up operation? I think Beth will have enough to clean up in her room without having to clean up out here as well” Meredith chuckled like a slight shake of her head.
“Agreed” Josh replied smiling, before standing and making his way to the nearest upended storage basket.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The aroma of coffee washed over Beth and her mind started to pull itself from sleep. Waking slightly Beth inhaled and smiled at the strong smell of coffee that was assaulting her nose, it was fresh, sitting up Beth stretched and yawned, all the while with her eyes still closed, but they snapped open when she felt something clutched tightly in her hand as she raised it above her head to stretch.
Beth tilted her head up and was perplexed to see she was clutching her stuffed vampire, she brought her arms back down to eye level and inspected the toy, before something on the floor caught her eye.
Beth looked around the room in awe, and suddenly everything came rushing back to her, “oh my god” she said to herself as she looked at the mess she had made, it looked like a tornado had ripped through her bedroom. Deciding that she needed coffee before she could even start to deal with what happened, Beth stood and noted she was all but naked.
Instead of fighting with her memory to try and find the cause of her near nakedness, Beth simple accepted the fact and searched the floor for her robe, with one hand, as the other was still formyl encircling the vampire’s hand.
After a minute of searching Beth found her robe and donned it, before stepping carefully over the rubble on her floor and making her way out into the living room. Halfway down the hall she heard the quiet voices of two people chatting; another step further and she recognized them and smiled.
Stepping out into the living room Beth made her arrival known, “hey” she said, and smiled as two sets of concerned, and dark rimmed eyes, turned to face her.
“Hey” Josh said relieved, noting that Beth seemed to know who he was, which was a much better reaction then the last time she had seen him, “coffee?” he asked, holding up his freshly filled mug.
“Definitely” Beth replied yawning once more and making her way over to the dining table, at the same time Josh extracted himself form his seat.
“Hi mum” Beth said placing a kiss on her mothers’ cheek before seating herself next to her and placing the vampire in her lap.
“Hey Beth” Meredith replied with a tired smile.
Josh slid a cup of freshly brewed coffee onto the table in front of Beth, who took it up hastily with a greedy expression, which made both the others in the room smirk.
“Oh shush” Beth said as she savoured the first mouthful of the dark brown liquid, letting out an overly dramatic “ahhhhh” as she swallowed.
After a few more sips Beth’s face turned serious, “ok, I’m awake now” she stated, basically saying it was now allowed for the others to ask questions of her.
“What happened?” Josh blurted out rather quickly, causing him to blush as Meredith chuckled.
“Sorry” he replied sheepishly.
“Nonsense” Meredith retorted.
Beth smiled, she liked how well her boyfriend and mother got along. Her smile faded as she faced the question though.
“I saw a man that reminded me of, urm, ah” Beth started, not actually knowing the name of the man who rescued her, so being unavailable to finish her sentence.
“Mick” her mother finished for her.
“Mick?” Beth questioned.
“Mick St John. The name of the PI who found you when you were younger” Meredith expanded.
“Ok, well yeah, I saw someone that reminded me of him, a dead ringer actually, well as far as my memory will allow me to remember” Beth stated with a slight grievance that whenever she did remember something about her kidnapping that it was usually only momentary.
“Then what?” Josh probed, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Then he was gone and I felt like I did all those year ago. I can’t explain it but I felt as if I had been taken again, I was terrified and all I wanted was to feel safe, and the only way I remember of being able to feel safe after I was taken was to have this guy with me, so I was looking for him” Beth said motioning towards the stuffed toy vampire in her lap.
“You left him at home” Meredith replied with a small smile on her face.
“Apparently I forgot” Beth said with an embarrassed smile.
“At least now we know what his name is” Meredith chuckled as she poked the vampires’ shoulder.
“We do?” Beth asked, slightly confused.
“Mick, you said you wanted Mick, I figured that he was what you meant and brought him over, the minute you got him in your arms you calmed down” Meredith explained, a look of understanding falling over Beth’s face.
“Oh” was all she managed to get out.
Josh placed a supportive hand on her knee and squeezed softly, causing Beth to look at him and smile, he smiled back and removed his hand. The small gesture was not lost on Meredith.
“Well, I think I better be off,” Meredith said standing, she looked weary Beth noted.
“What time is it?” Beth asked wondering for the first time how she had been asleep for, and in turn how long Josh and Meredith had been awake.
“10 pm” Josh replied, laughing at Beth’s eyes went wide.
“You mean I slept all day?” she asked bewildered.
“Yes” Meredith replied smiling as she stretched her tired muscles.
“Sorry” Beth apologised smiling slightly.
“Not to worry, just don’t do it again,” Meredith said chuckling, getting a laugh out of both Josh and Beth.
“I’ll call you tomorrow mum,” Beth said standing as she made to hug her mother.
“Not too early, I think I might need a bit of a sleep in” Meredith replied as the pair walked over to the door, Josh remained seated, giving the two a little privacy.
“You have got one hell of a catch there Beth” Meredith said motioning with her head to Josh.
“I know mum,” Beth said smiling as she looked over at Josh who smiled in return.
“Good” Meredith replied before giving Beth a kiss on the cheek and exiting the apartment.
Beth took a moment before returning to Josh at the dining table, he looked exhausted.
“You need to get some sleep,” she said placing her hands on his shoulders and leaning forward to kiss the top of his head.
“Mmm” Josh replied sleepily.
“And here I was expecting at least some form of an argument from you” Beth chuckled slightly as she stood back to allow Josh to stand.
“ If I wasn’t so tired I’d have a witty comeback” Josh replied through a yawn, to which Beth just smirked.
“Ahuh, sure you would” she replied as she shoved him in the direction of the bedroom.
“Go, sleep, and be careful you don’t break your ankle on the way” Beth said to Josh’s retreating form, he chuckled and waved a hand over his head as his way of saying goodnight before making his way to the bed and collapsing with exhaustion on top of it.
Beth smiled to herself as she looked around the clean living room, she smiled to herself as she sat on the couch and grabbed the TV remote, “well at least I didn’t make a mess of this room” she said to herself as she flicked the TV on.
