Keeping ego in check

Jan 31, 2007 22:07

To keep my ego in check, I shall dissociate praise or critisim from who I am. I shall credit it to the ideas rather than take ownership of it personally. I included praise in there, too, because if I let it define me too much, my ego will inflate. And if my ego inflates, the only good it does is to be defensive and self absorbed. So if someone compliments me on an act, I will give the compliment to that. I will think of myself as not nice, but not mean. Not amazing, but not blah. Not smart, but not dumb. Ect. I shall stay neutral in most aspects. Because if someone compliments me on something, it's likely that they would want to do that, too (talking about things that aren't fixed). Which means they have the potential/intention/heart (which matters much more than doing the thing themselves, in my opinion). Which means I'm not better than them in any way.

Thank teachers. They are the ones that help us realize our potentials.
