Career? hee hee I always wanted to be a full time housewife and mother. Nothing else mattered to me since I came from a dysfunctional childhood where I received no feelings of emotional expression or support or encouragement. Nothing mattered more than being the exact opposite sort of parent so I focused on that.
After high school I was a chairside dental assistant for seven years. Very interesting work. I was told in Vegas that they make about $40,000-50,000 a yr now and a dental hygienist who needs just 2 yrs of college makes $60,000-70,000
I had my two sons and did not return to work until they were 7 and 10 yrs of age. I never regretted spending that time with them. I felt if I was going to have a child I wanted to be the one to raise them full time. During that time I was class mother, den leader, scout pack treasurer & fundraising chairperson, co-chairperson for school book fairs & reading workshops and publishing centers. I also taught religious instruction (volunteer of course) for five of those years.
When I retd to work I wanted something where I could be home when my sons got home from school and where I was free in the summer. I was an assistant to a Coldwell Banker relocation specialist for 3 yrs. Then I was self employed with 4 employees for housecleaning services for all relocation specialists in the county and did that for 2 yrs.. Then my most challenging job was director as an elementary school kitchen. I started as the salad bar lady and was immediately promoted to director. I did that for 6 yrs. Then I went to college full time for one and 1/2 yrs. Divorced. Moved from NY to Nevada and worked in the accounting dept of MGM casino and hotel on the Vegas strip and loved that job so so much. Miss it terribly. Moved here to Oklahoma 5 months ago and now work in the accounting dept of Blue Cross Blue Shield. I've only been there 2 wks but it seems like a wonderful place. I am considering going back to college since they do offer college tuition reimbursement. I think I might go for Human Resource. I like helping people, yes. But more than that I love to use my creativity and organization.
Not going to college earlier and getting a degree and pursuing a meaningful and well paying line of work is one of my biggest regrets in life. I feel you can make any job meaningful by the way you deal with people but the good paying part isn't in every job. The financial security I am able to enjoy came from the divorce settlement and I invested in real estate in Vegas and it zoomed. If I had it all to do over again from day one, I think I would go for psychology or elementary education. I adore working with children and, if I do say so myself, I am exceptional with them.

Don't worry about it being long. I enjoyed reading it.
You know what? I've always admired stay-at-home moms for their intense dedication to their kid(s) and the strive to put the care of their kids in front of working. I've always thought it would make such a difference to the child/children.
It seems like you've had many careers in the past. You must have learned a lot about yourself going through so many careers. And being promoted from a salad lady to the director so soon! Wow, you must have been really hardworking. MGM is a really nice place. I remember going there when I was really young.
I hope whatever choice you make, going back to college or not/Human Resource or something else, you will be happy in the long run. =)
