In August I signed up for National Novel Writing Month out of boredom while hospitalized. Now that November is upon me and I've actually started the thing I've come to a conclusion:
Trying to write a 50,000 word novel while managing my health is an exercise in masochism.
I was hospitalized again late in October - and missed Halloween! Le sob! - and stayed through the first of November, missing the chance to write my first 1667 words. And the next day I had to recover from the hospitalization. Another 1667 unwritten. The next two days were spent taking care of monetary business and other chores. So Now I'm four days behind and my plot bunnies are beginning to grow fangs and gnaw at me.
My word count is currently 2608. It isn't easy to keep writing when I have to constantly check my blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, weight and other stats several times a day. Plus I have to take pills five times a day. Mercifully I have chat sites and Write or Die to motivate me, but I know I won't make the 50K goal by the end of the month.
For now, NaNo is just an extreme exercise in creative writing. I wanna see how far I can go making an original story without much planning or any idea how it will end. I like the characters I've made though they seem kinda flat to me at the moment. Let's see how far I can push them.
