CHARACTER NAME: Sora "Yoite" Koudou.
FANDOM: Nabari no Ou.
CHRONOLOGY: Chapter 50; Post-Death.
BACKGROUND:
When Yoite's mother was pregnant she wanted a girl and was going to name the girl Sora. However, her Sora was born as neither male nor female (though he is referred to as male) and she passed away after giving birth, leaving Yoite in his father's care. As a child he was abused by his family, neglected and abused, blamed for murdering his mother. He was made to believe he was a Death God who killed his own mother to survive, kept locked in the basement most of the time. His family hated him, telling him he was not supposed to exist and the only one who was kind to him was his half-brother Tsukasa who said 'Sora is just Sora' when he asked who he was. His family had kept the girl name for him, as punishment since he was not the girl who had been wanted.
When Yoite was fourteen years old, his family was going to move to another house, however, they decided he should not go with them, and during one very dramatic incident, it ended with his step mother (or sister, it's never really clarified) slashing at his neck with a knife and then handing the knife over to Tsukasa to finish the job as Yoite was still alive. Tsukasa, unable to harm his half-brother dropped the knife and his hesitation allowed Yoite to run, running away from the house while holding his bleeding neck, collapsing in a street, half dead. He was found by a man named Hattori, brought to a hospital and taken into emergency surgery, which saved his life. However, due to the traumatic events and the life-long abuse, he now had a wish to be erased-- To never have been born at all since he was never wanted in the first place.
Hattori told him there was a way to grant that wish, and so Yoite began training to become a ninja in the world of Nabari-- A world hidden from everyone in 'Front' (or the normal world), leaning the forbidden technique, Kira, a technique which shortens the user's life and takes away the five senses, breaking the body down slowly. He was put under the care of Yukimi Kazuhiko, another ninja working for Hattori, and 11 years his senior. Yukimi gave him the name Yoite since he refused to reveal his real name, and true to his name, meaning 'wind of the night', like a wind, a ghost, Yoite killed, perfectly completing every mission.
However, not too soon after this, the Shinrabansho, a power that is like a God, capable of granting any wish, awakened and Yoite's goals began to stray toward that, wanting to use it's power to cease existing since it was something his Kira could not grant.
A chance meeting with the host led to him kidnapping him and threatening him, and the boy, Miharu, had no choice but to agree. Eventually Miharu also switched sides to work for Hattori, so he could be closer to Yoite, and although it started out rather badly the two ended up becoming friends through the ordeals they suffered together. Yoite even almost died during a mission to Alya to retrieve their forbidden technique scroll, but was saved by Miharu and taken back to a hospital. Because Hattori believed it was too dangerous to leave Miharu with Yoite and Yukimi it was decided he should stay with Hattori himself, but Yoite didn't agree and came to get him, against orders and the two ran away together, chased by assassins. Although they ran, they were caught up to, and Yoite fought for Miharu's sake, having found himself and who he was supposed to be through everything he'd been through with Miharu and Yukimi, realizing he only needed to be Yoite.
Sitting with Miharu in the snow after Yukimi protected them from the assassins as Yukimi had switched alliances to help Yoite, Miharu offered to change the past and everything Yoite had done, but Yoite stuck to his original wish of being erased, saying they could fulfill their promise completely as Yoite had promised not to die until Miharu could erase him. However, he passed away peacefully next to him before Miharu could grant his wish, smiling as he fell against his best friend in his final moments.
PERSONALITY:
Yoite is a quiet and reserved person by nature. He's not the type of person to open up to others easily, if at all, preferring to keep details about himself to himself. He isn't the chatty type, though when he does speak, it's usually something random that he's been thinking about or some deep thoughts. He is a very curious person due to his years in isolation, though is also careful to keep things impersonal so those around him won't want to come close to him or get to know him better. He is not the type of person to accept the kindness of others, and does his best to push them away if he feels like they're getting too close or being too kind because he doesn't want good memories holding him back and he does not want people to be kind to him because he has no way of repaying the kindness they show, though he has started realizing that maybe it's not necessary to repay it, but is still fairly hesitant to accept it. He is the type to slink into the shadows and stay in the background, keeping his head low to avoid attention, believing it's better if no one looks at him or touches him, because he's not worth the time they spend on him.
Due to having been isolated most of his life, only escaping the sort of isolation he was in during the last two-three months of his life, he is unfamiliar with how the world works and observes and mimics others in order to learn, teaching himself what he needs to know in order to function as close to normally as he can get, though he still comes off as a bit shy and awkward when interacting with those around him and those he cares about. Like any child though, he can be quite random and does have his bratty moments around those he cares about enough, though it takes some effort to get to the point where he opens up that much. One thing that is certain about him is that he can be very difficult to communicate with and not the easiest to understand and even when he is close to someone, he may have relapses to trying to push them away when frightened or when having a bad day. During these times he might even threaten those close to him, even if he often regrets such things afterwards and falls more into despair at the thought of having hurt another person.
Of course, being a ninja, he isn't quite soft either. During a mission, he can be the face of calmness itself, and kills seemingly without remorse. If it's something that will help him obtain his goal, he is not above threatening or injuring and he has killed many people before and if needed would do so again, though he truly does regret it even though he might not show it. His cool and calm facade is just that though. A mask he wears so he won't tear himself apart enough emotionally to not be able to focus on his goal of being erased.
Though he would never admit it, he too is a person who is kind. However, his way of showing kindness and happiness might be a bit hard to understand, things that seem totally ordinary for another person, may be his only way of showing that he cares. It can be everything from a quiet greeting to a small smile or taking a hold of another person's sleeve. Being one who dislikes touching, things like hugs aren't the sort of things he is likely to do and he prefers keeping a distance to others. Because he considers himself disgusting he may even freak out when touched too much when he doesn't want to be and even become violent or angry. It's one of those times when his emotions shine through more than usual even if they're the less good emotions.
He is also extremely self-loathing due to his dysfunctional upbringing with years of emotional and possibly also physical abuse. While being able to function close to normally (he doesn't engage in self-mutilation or make suicide attempts, but he doesn't live as a normal teenager would and doesn't communicate with others or express himself in a way that is 'normal'), he does hate himself, speaking words such as "It's better if I don't exist" or "I'm just a Death God. There is no reason for you to look at me. Or to want to touch me." Even when gaining friends, he is still the type who doesn't want to live, simply because he things he brings bad luck and death, because it's better if he isn't there and because all that he's done, all the sins that he's committed, should be erased so that everyone can be happy and so that there will be no pain left caused by him. He considers himself something so unnatural that it doesn't belong in the world and no manner of kindness and not even good friends can make him change his mind.
CLASS: Anti-Hero.
SUPERHERO NAME: N/A.
ALTER EGO: Yoite.
POWER:
Yoite has a power that allows him to use a fragment of life-force as a way of attacking an enemy. By breaking it off, he can shoot it into the body of a target and manipulate it from there. He can use the fragment to take over flesh and bone and bend it to his will or take over the flow of the target's life-force and kill them that way. On the other hand, using a fragment of his own life-force on a comatose target can also activate theirs and call them back to consciousness. When used on a target without any sort of life-force, like objects, they simply explode as there is nothing there to manipulate.
He can also leave a fragment of his life-force inside someone and when he dies, the fragment, along with the carrier of the fragment, dies as well. Of course, the fragment stays under his control when inside the target and he can remove it at any time he wishes.
Although not a power, he is also a good fighter, having been trained in martial arts when becoming a ninja and he has a strong body despite looking weak and he is also extremely fast. Another thing is that he has an above average learning capability and learns new things simply from observing or trying it out a few times.
Non-canon; Preferably, I'd like to give him a non-canon power that allows him to seal his life-force back up after using it rather than having it constantly leak out as losing his life-force as a manner of attack comes with a lot of negative effects. The negative effects of his power is the loss of all of his five senses, and the deterioration of his health and body.
COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE:
... This place...
Again...
... I guess even something like death isn't an escape...
[There's a short pause, while he thinks. He wants to go on about how not even death is an escape, that his continued existence is wrong, that all the pain and suffering he's already caused is bad enough... In the end, they're all things that aren't necessary to say, regardless of how upset he may be.]
... My hat and scarf...
[Yeah, right from death not being an escape to worrying about his hat and scarf. Anything that can take his attention away from a certain other thing is better right now.]
... I guess I'll need to go find them.
THIRD PERSON:
Yoite couldn't understand this at all. At those final moments, he'd felt like he was being pulled somewhere. Dying was like that, wasn't it? Like being pulled away from one's body, life being replayed before one's eyes. However, there was no replay of a life that had never been meant to be there in the first place. No peaceful fading. It felt wrong somehow, not like dying or being erased, but like he was being violently tugged at, and the warmth he had felt sitting next to Miharu was already gone, and with this feeling, even remembering that or those green eyes looking at him was difficult. He couldn't even focus, or breathe. It felt like his lungs were being crushed, and for a moment, he wanted to struggle, even if his body wouldn't even move at the moment.
When the feeling finally ended, he took a deep breath, wondering distantly if he was floating in nothingness now, if his existence was erased from Earth. He felt sick though, as if he needed to throw up, though that feeling was fading. He wondered if opening his eyes would be a good idea. If he didn't exist any more... He wondered what surroundings would be around him when he was somewhere where there was 'nothing'. Where he was nothing.
Slowly, blue eyes opened, instantly registering that something was wrong. He could no longer see very well, but there was lights, and someone moving toward him. His mind was racing, trying to find out what had happened. He was sure that Miharu had granted his wish, that his existence, his very being was gone. So why was he here? Why was he breathing? Feeling? He couldn't find any answers and it felt like his heart skipped a few beats, though he wasn't sure if that was because he was frightened and confused, or because his body was in such a weakened state.
"Wh..." Was the only sound he could manage to make. He needed to have his questions answered.
