Wow. My brain hurts now. But I think it's a good kind of hurt.

Okay kinda random and probably makes no sense...but is Sam comparable to the dwarf? His life was saved by the sacrifice of Dean (Dean being seen as a part of Sam as the beard is being seen as a part of the dwarf) and in return he is constantly berating Dean about the sacrifice. (I mean, yeah a beard is definitely less important than a brother...but I'm talking about symbolism here.) So as Sam "abuses" Dean for the sacrifice, will it ultimately lead to Sam's demise?

Like I said...probably makes no sense. And I haven't read Snow-White and Rose-Red in years (and honestly don't remember that much of it...I should go reread it). Just something I wanted to throw out there.

And BTW...I LOVE this meta!

LOL! *pats gently* I'm just impressed anyone had the stamina to make it through such a long-winded thing. *G*

Interesting through about Sam =~ the dwarf. There are so many signs that Sam's taking some huge risks it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks!

Wow, lots of interesting threads here. I don't know where to start. :) You certainly put a lot of research into this meta, which is always terrific. I wasn't familiar with the Snow-white Rose-red tale before this, so this was an excellent way to learn something new. Thanks ( ... )

The rose as a symbol of the feminine ideal isn't anything new (Aphrodite/Venus were associated with the rose), so perhaps the show has lifted more symbolism from the Greeks/Romans.

Huh. Didn't know that. I'd imagine that was their gift to the Virgin Mary's image once Christianity hit Greece, then. Well, waddya know. *G*

Kewl, I'll have to check out Cassie and Sarah's appearances, then. I don't have my Season 1 DVDs as they are out on loan, so I couldn't run through them.

I also find it interesting that S1/S2 spent a decent amout of time showing the boys' concern (in particular Sam and Bobby's) over the people they're trying to save or the people who were inadvertantly harmed by "evil" while S3 hasn't done that as much.

Yeah, you know, it's almost like they've become insulated from the outside world, even as they're become more distant from each other.

Thanks Billie. :)

*gasp* Writing meta without the reference material? ;P

I have a nifty download link for all S1 episodes if you're interested. I don't want to post it publically for fear something may happen to it (get shut down by the powers that be), so I can e-mail it to you or post it in a locked entry.

To trust or to not trust. To give or to not give. To receive aid, or to repudiate it. To react to provocation with violence, or to hold back. I would argue, then, that one of the main themes in Bedtime Stories is also about choice, about the role of free-will.

I think this season is going to be all about that. That's a good summation.

Sadly, the parallels between Callie and Sam make me wonder what other options Sam might have considered if only Dean wasn't shutting the conversation down.I don't understand the criticism Dean gets for this. :) Dean CAN'T know about this. Dean HAS to shut down conversation about it. He can't seem to encourage someone else to get him out of the deal, because then he's involved and then he's 'welching' which it was made very clear were against the terms of his deal. For all Dean knows if he lets a conversation between he and Sam go too far in that regard, Sam could drop dead on the spot. Sam knows this perfectly well, Dean told him in Magnificent 7 which was like a week after the deal was made ( ... )

And I don't see it as a criticism of Dean so much as an observation. It's like watching atoms bounce around in a nuclear chamber. They're just doing what they're doing, but eventually, fission happens ( ... )
