The Kids In The Hall

A possibly "obscure" show, although I'm guessing that Americans and Canadians may know of it ;)

The Kids In The Hall were/are a Canadian comedy group, formed back in the 80's. The group consists of Dave Foley (people may know him from NewsRadio), Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, Kevin McDonald (or the voice of Pleakley to Lilo & Stitch fans) and Scott Thompson.

They had a sketch show that ran from 1988 to 1994, and in 1996 they released a movie; Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy.

I first discovered these guys in about 1998, through the movie. It was shown on Foxtel, which is a cable station in Australia. I thought it was beyond weird, but the fact that it had Dave Foley in it kept me watching, and I liked what I saw.

I later found out that they actually had a series as well, and that it was actually on Foxtel too, on Arena (at first) so I started watching and taping as many episodes as possible. I absolutely loved it! Such a strange brand of humour, and comedy, something I'd never really seen before, but I like to think that my KITH experience is what shaped my comedy tastes today.

Such was my love for these guys that the very first item I ever bought from Amazon was the soundtrack to Brain Candy, and it's great - cool music and funny dialogue ;)

Anyway!

The series and movie are all available on Region 1 DVD. I have the first season but I really want to get the rest - just don't have the funds unfortunately.

Oh it's also probably important to note that something that made the series all the more interesting was the fact that the guys would play a lot of female characters - and convincingly as well, especially in the case of Dave Foley, who, in his youth, bloody looked like a woman with the right hair and makeup, LOL!

One of the best known characters was the Headcrusher, who can be seen in my icon there ;) But there were many more regular characters, like Chicken Lady - freaky but hilarious ;)

I'd post some clips but YouTube doesn't appear to be loading for me at the moment, but if you do a search around the net you'll probably find something.

Anyway, rambled on enough!
