Sorry to spam your flists so soon after my last post, but I just have to ask before I forget.
Does anyone know the show Supernova, particularly Australians (so that you can answer my question. :P)?
If anyone here has foxtel, can you explain something to me? Last year (I think it was anyway) I watched the first series of Supernova, the Australian/British comedy set in Australia. I really enjoyed it. I found out that series 2 had been made, but I never got to see it, I don't know if it was shown here yet or not.
A few hours ago, on UKTV, there was an ad for Supernova... but it said something about premiere in October. Did they just randomly accidentally put on the wrong ad, and it wasn't supposed to be anything to do with Supernova, or did they put on the wrong Supernova ad and they actually are going to reshow it sometime, (hopefully with the second series too!)? Or for some reason they're advertising showing it again in October?
For those who don't know Supernova, I'll tell you about it!
It's a show that is fairly recent (second series only recently made), and was a collaboration between Australia and the UK. I just randomly caught it on tv one day, it was a marathon of it, so I just kept watching. I wish I'd taped it, as I've only seen it through once. It is about a man from England who comes to the middle of nowhere in Australia, to join their scientific Observatory team.
I loved the comedy style, it was so... 'Australian' yet though yeah, it did have fun with Australian stereotypes a bit, it wasn't just *one* stereotype, and it's no more being stupid with stereotypes than the british do with their own various stereotypes. And it was smarter than just stereotypes as well. The comedy was very Australian, but also very British. And there was a lot in it that I was just nodding and going 'oh my gosh so TRUE!'
One sequence I really really remember well is, they got the guy to put the laundry out on the clothes line. You see him putting them up... then you see him finishing putting it up. Then you see him immediately go back to the start of the clothes again, and start taking them off! :D They didn't explain WHY he did that, and that's why I loved it- it was pretty subtle. If you don't get it, it was saying that it was so hot that the clothes were already dry. And yes, that can actually happen some days, if there's enough washing to put out. (and there was in this case)
Another bit he tries walking to town on a 40 degree day and pretty much gets sunstroke and everyone has to go out and look for him and he's all sunburnt. And he's horrified by how few towns there are in the area (ie, pretty much none. It's a 'one pub' situation, where farmers come from hundreds of kms to hang out in the pub)
If I remember properly, the characters were really cool too! :D Eccentric and crazy but also very fun and loveable.
