Smoothie disaster...

Growing up we used to go camping every summer the first week in August. On year there was disaster for all of us. My dad backed over the campsite marker, my brother crashed his bike in front of a pickup truck full of girls, my friend Erin dislocated a swimming buoy which floated to the middle of the lake, and I fell off the end of a 2 foot bridge. As each event unfolded, my mom was always there to say, "Smooth move!". By the end of the week she was calling us all Smoothies.
This was long before smoothies were the blended beverage craze, that they are today. Today, true to my Smoothie nature I love to make fruit smoothies. For my birthday, my parents got me this amazing machine. It is the perfect individual smoothie machine (side note: I would love a magic bullet but really don't have the space for all the crap that comes with it). I have been rocking out some wonderful mixed berry smoothies lately.
Tuesday night I decided I wanted to kick it up a bit. After raiding through the pantry I found a 1/2 chunk of semisweet chocolate from the dreaded Christmas cookie baking marathon. Hmmm. Chocolate mixed berry...? Sure why not. I had my mashed berries, yogurt and splash of juice in the glass all nice and blended. I added my ice, as I usually do, and the hunk of chocolate. Karma kicked in as I hit the on button; chocolate in a healthy smoothie, what was I thinking. In a beautiful display, purple puree came charging out of the cup in a circular pattern on to everything in sight. Nothing was spared; the wall. the counter, the mixer, me and nearly the cat. My husband and sister in law burst into hysterics. My momma would be proud I was a smoothie Smoothie. It was the most delicious smoothie, but not worth the cleanup.

The lesson to be learned: Melt the chocolate before adding it to the smoothie.
