The light of Kingdom Hearts tended to wax and wane by no set schedule, and certainly it was never truly filtered by the rain. Tonight it was bright, ever so bright and clear. It made each droplet of water shine silver as it fell; gilded beauty in a world of destroyed brick and failing neon.
There was nothing and no one, the heartless world seemingly as empty as nature declared it should always have been. There were no hearts to draw the shadows, no lingering Nobodies since the keyblade master's rampage.
It was. Always, above all other options, because Demyx desperately needed his faith (Never take hope from a person, it might be all they have left) but at the same time he didn't have enough left for more than one thing. He'd spent so much time believing in Kingdom Hearts, he didn't know if he could ever believe in anything else, so he kept holding onto it. Even after technically defecting, even after his superiors said goodbye to it for good.
And that faith, it was being rewarded.
"You're speaking to me. Oh my- you're speaking to me, why?" It wasn't demanding or angry, it was more like the question of the devout asking God why he above all others was chosen.
"Why, Demyx?" if light could laugh, no doubt it would seem much like ripple that passed through the beams at his question. It didn't seem derisive though. Far from.
"Am I-" he looks around for anyone else, anyone else to tell him this is really happening, he hasn't just reached a brand new stage of delusion. "...do I get to be whole again? I want to be a real boy."
Delusion could only carry one so far. Even when that one was nothing, and no one by the laws of his reality. This? Was a far step beyond where such could go.
If he cared to test it.
"Reality is very painful. It has so many ways to hurt you."
If Demyx could cry, he would. He doesn't want to lose this. Not with it right here, he's not sure he would be able to hold on if he didn't get this now. He'd just unravel.
"There are no attempts. No retractions. You will suffer, Demyx." the hesitating drops plummeted at that, striking the ground with the sound of bells to leave the reflected moonlight scattering like glass shards along the ground.
Demyx drops to his knees, pleading, "Yes! Please, Kingdom Hearts!" Because there is no other option now. He can't come this close and not get it. He'll die right here if he doesn't. He'd rather die knowing he at least tried, even if just for a moment.
The silvery shards of moonlight shivered and spread, growing like puddles until the street beneath Demyx's knees was drowning in cool light "As you Wish"
It burned, that light. Crawling upward along foot, leg, and coat alike...and in it's wake it left reality.
The rain felt cool against his skin, colder than he'd ever noticed it being before. But he'd rarely had the rain on his skin before. Now he had to hold the Organization coat around himself tightly to keep it up.
Everything was a lot taller.
It was around then he realized he was actually smaller, shorter than Roxas had ever been, even.
And in that brief moment, the World that Never Was had a heart in it that had not yet hated or feared, and was for an instant as pure as a Princess's.

Especially the Superior.
"Who-?"

Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.

"...Kingdom Hearts?"

"Kingdom Hearts." because that was what a Nobody believed in.

Even if you really shouldn't be, it doesn't do you any good to be told that. Over and over. And maybe then they'll listen when he says he cares.

"The pain of reality cannot be handled like that of your unreality, channeled...could you cope with such pain?"

"Let me try, please."
