I don't even know what to do with all this not-rain. It's disconcerting.
There are birds outside, as one might expect because I live on Earth in a temperate climate. One would think, watching my cat react, that birds had been invented this morning. He's already fallen off the windowsill twice in the past hour because he startled when something landed on the roof.
Another amusing thing - my father was watching Oprah this week. Suffice it to say this is unusual.
I'm sure you have all seen this, but just in case
queerlygen. Unfortunately, I fail like a giant failing thing at writing gen of any respectable length. Where is the part of my brain with the plots? I should find that.
Oh, speaking of plots. I spent most of the time in the current warnings debate sort of reading-with-popcorn rather than using any of it to inform any personal policy about warnings, because with the exception of some porn where the warning for some is totally an advertisement for others, I don't write about things that need to be warned for, so I've never run up against the spoiler/warning problem. Except now, I have this plot that sort of depends on a misunderstanding where one character may-or-may-not have done something really horrible to the other. And I'll totally warn for whatever horribleness if I write it, but this is what I get for thinking "wow, I'm glad I never run into that problem." Also, this is what happens when I spend too much time outside weeding: I plot things, and they get away from me.
And then, as always, there's dancing (which would be more fun if my life always involved dancing, rather than involving the watching of dancing)
So! Mia doesn't hate Brandon anymore. But come on, did they really have to be so stupid and coy about it? Way to make yourself look even more like an irrational teenager, Mia.
This week, I loved pretty much everything, though it varied a bit whether what I loved was the routine or the dancers. Loved Jeanette and Brandon both weeks. Ade and Melissa didn't make me jump up and down with excitement for either the rumba or the pas de deux (and wow, what a train wreck that would have been with a different couple), but obviously danced them fabulously.
I still don't think that Kayla and Kupono are an interesting couple, combined, but they're both sort of shyly likable and very hardworking, so I'm sure they'll continue to do well. And of course, the judges love them, so that helps. Ditto on the likability and hardworkingness for Caitlin and Jason, although I think the judges are more neutral about them.
Evan and Randi's broadway routine was oddly reminiscent of the previous week's contemporary, which was a shame. I don't think Evan's going to make it out of the bottom three if people stop voting for him, because I'm not seeing as much range in his performance as I'd expected from Vegas week. Also, Janine and Phillip, a little disappointing similarity (between Hip-hop and Broadway...what?) in that I thought they were hesitant both weeks. Obviously working around the chain this week was rough, but I wonder now if the couch and the pillows last week were a distraction from dancing full out.
I was waiting for Jonathon to go home last week, and I wasn't surprised to see Vitolio go this time, given the recent praise heaped on Kupono and his ability to build on criticism. And, honestly, Vitolio has a great story, but he's not a Great Dancer, yet. He's way better than Cedric, the kid two seasons ago who got a scholarship to Debbie Allen's school, but he's a great example of someone who didn't grow up with training, and got thrown into the spotlight maybe a bit too early. If he really wants to dance professionally, I hope he finds his way to some lessons.
I don't know whether Asuka was just more practiced at her fake emotion in her own style, or was so uncomfortable in other styles that she wasn't enjoying herself. Even though Jeanette is Salsa, she seems to have taken up the Latin Ballroom mantle well enoughin Asuka's absence. And Karla :( She already had one foot out the door when she got paired up with Vitolio, but I think they lucked into a great routine, for ballroom, and I was a little surprised to see them in the bottom three. I'm sad to see her go, but I think I'd be sad to see any of the women go at this point. Maybe not Caitlin.
