Let's talk about how much I'm not buying what Tim Hutton is selling
I really don't know if its the writing or the direction or him. Maybe it's the writing a little. I feel like that line, the "let's go rob someone who kills people, and lives in our city" one, really needed to be earlier in the scene to pin Nate's tone. As it played out, it seemed like he was just power-tripping over not being in charge, which I didn't expect. I get that Nate is the one with the experience and the knowledge to say when they need to back off something. I totally got that he needs to be the one to make the hard decisions when he said they'd go plan and then come back for the rest of the orphans last week. This just seemed petty, and I expect more from him.
Also, what was up with the Sophie melodrama? (and to a lesser extent, Eliot and Nate) They're professionals. They're supposed to be fantastic at what they do - Sophie, in particular, at acting - and then suddenly, when confronted with a wedding and/or a woman who's missing her husband, Sophie turns to jell-o? And then, I thought maybe I'd missed something, and Nate was stalling with his tangential rant off the vows, but nope! He just got distracted by his twu wuv.
Of course, given the interviews that have been up on the tnt site, it's entirely possible that character development is an afterthought, but I'd sort of rather they just not do it, if they're going to do it badly.
On a happier note - Hi, dad from The Wonder Years. Good to see you working again. Parker and Alec continue to be a joy to watch (separately and together). I'm a little bewildered (charmed! but still bewildered) by her ease with the FBI guy after her complete inability to carry on a conversation last week, but I guess it makes it an even better thing that they bumped this episode back.
Loved Alec and Eliot's conversation about marriage, which I would quote, but I am far too lazy to walk to the other room to play it back. Also, this is my confused face - is the girl Eliot is talking about supposed to be the chick from the horse thing?
There's more, but I'm sleepy. I just need to rewatch tomorrow!
