pretty much the same as yesterday

Today I purchased a cheapish bottle of Pinot Noir, and one of Zinfandel, and two different bottles of Champagne (or more accurately, one bottle of Champagne and one of sparkling wine). Also, a new dutch oven, and more ground beef so that I can actually make the chili I planned to make last week, and some cider doughnut holes that I'm going to try to make last more than a day.

This may because it is raining today, and cold to boot.More mild challenge WTFery.

There's a new Inception fic challenge community, and its rules (somewhat lacking in... specificity) are in the profile. Rule #9 is my favorite: Please don't feel sad if you don't win. That doesn't mean you aren't a talented writer by any means.

Don't feel sad! It's a rule!

I'm totally going to write gen fic. I'm going to write Gen fic about Yusu(e)f. For some reason I can only write gen fic for challenges, and for challenges I can only write gen fic.Billy Joe Armstrong is playing St. Jimmy this week in American Idiot. I am a tiny* bit frightened to see his performance, and I am a slightly larger bit frightened of the audience members who may show up, but I have to at least check it out.Having survived my Weekend of Too Much Top Gear, I have discovered a new favorite Star in a Reasonably Priced Car interview: Will Young from Pop Idol. He and Jeremy talk about home decorating. At length.Anyone who gets SyFy and stopped watching Stargate: Universe halfway through season one, you can pick up where you left off with a marathon tomorrow, leading up to the season two premiere. And Undercovers. I liked it, in a non-threatening way, but I can't say that I'm excited by it.

I have just realized that I don't have any idea what any of their names are, so bear with me.

I liked the banter and the pace, but there were a few bits where the pace kept me from understanding the dialogue, even on repeat viewing of the clip, and this was annoying, even if I still got the point of what they were saying. (The ones I remember are fanboy dude saying something about being a sycophant, and The Wife saying something about her preferred lockpicking tools, but there were a few other points where I didn't bother and just let it go by.)

I enjoyed the fact that the fanboy contact in Madrid was clearly off the deep end about it, so while he was expositionarily appreciative of all the awesome things that The Husband had done, it wasn't all about how awesome the guy was.

The one moment that, in hindsight, defines my problem with the pilot is the moment when husband guy is preparing to go in alone and rescue the ex-friend. When they were debating it, I thought "Oh, shit. I really hope he's not secretly planning to off the guy for being a traitor." I thought that because 1) I didn't want it to happen and 2) it seemed totally out of character for what had been presented so far. But I had been well-trained by Alias to expect things to go horribly wrong in the pilot. And then again, and again, and again. So.

And then everyone was okay! Except for the fact that The Wife took a rocket launcher or whatever to the arms dealer guy's car, which seemed a bit... extreme. And sort of more-than-usually illegal, and potentially attention-drawing. It's possible that I missed some key piece of information that made that okay?

I'll be interested to see how much of the catering business continues to appear in the episodes. Are they going to be dealing with kitchen squabbles while garroting assassins every week? I feel like that would wear thin quickly.

This feels like it wants to be both a Wacky Caper show and a International Intrigue show, and I don't really see how that's going to work, but I'll give it a couple weeks to convince me.
