today was a really excellent day for mail

... which includes several things that came in the mail a long time ago, but I just finally got to appreciating.

I bought a pair of truly ridiculous boots a few weeks back, and I decided that now would be a good time to break them in. I can't really do tall boots, as I have rather small feet, and rather larger calves, and they just never fit. So, something with a lace-up option. I've had my eye on the tall Doc Martens boots for years, but I already own so many pairs of Docs, and to be perfectly honest, I am not exactly the poster girl for kick-ass combat and/or motorcycle boots.

I was really skeptical the day the boots showed up, because if they look ridiculous in the picture, trust me, they look more ridiculous in person. Also included in the shipment: a sweater that I still quite like, but which had unadvertised extra-long sleeves with thumb holes in the seam, which... not me. And I think the sweater influenced my opinion of the boots. Today, I wore the boots all day with similarly ridiculous knee socks, and a jean skirt, and a long hoodie cardigan thing. This is to say that today I dressed as if I was twelve, and it was a great deal of fun.

I missed The History Boys the first time around because I was busy living under my rock in Georgia. It is officially my new favorite thing, which is the excuse I'm going to use for why I'm not looking at the - I kid you not - 12 separate Google docs files that claim to be Inception WIPs. (And the three American Idiot fics; and the four Die Hard; and the file that is named "DH Genderswap that I am not writing"; and the two Lorne/Zelenka and the Sheppard/Mitchell that are never going to go anywhere, in a million years, no matter how many times I open the files; and the Abby/Eliot that is totally stalled because I have *still* not seen episode 3-whatever of this season of Leverage; and the two Cougar/Jensen; and the post-movie Wolverine/Gambit; and the eight Generation Kill.)

Uh, where was I?

Anyway, The History Boys! It has taken over the tiny part of my heart that used to be reserved for Dead Poet's Society, because I've never been able to bring myself to watch Dead Poet's Society again, but I rather think that I could watch The History Boys for like a week. And then perhaps even be inspired to learn something.

I sort of want all the stories in the world about Mrs. Lintott, but I will take things about the boys too, I suppose. *melodramatic sigh* It has been ages since I read a play, but I really curious what I missed, now.

and,
Greenbuild which I will probably not attend, but I'd really like to. A brochure thinger advertising discount tickets for The Scottsboro Boys which I'd only heard of because of Josh Henry from American Idiot, and even though it's supposed to be fabulous, I was hesitant to spring into previews for full-price tickets, but I totally will for 50% off. I am afraid that this is going to be precisely what happened with American Idiot, where going to a preview just meant they started sucking my bank account dry even earlier.

Also, a brochure for The Fresh Diet which I never would have sought out, and is stupidly expensive, but might - might - be worth it for a month for 30% off with promotional discount to get me eating like a normal person again. The brochure claims that the average person already spends $24 a day on food, which I so totally don't. I spend maybe $100 a week, and that's if I eat a whole lot of meat or fish, which I rarely do. The average person eats at a lot more restaurants than I do, apparently.

I don't know. Having someone deliver food to me daily is basically the antithesis of all my walking-to-the-market efforts this summer, but I completely lack the patience to prepare proper meals for myself.

I have a job interview of sorts tomorrow. Like, a backwards job interview, where this guy keeps trying to hire me, and he keeps basically offering me jobs I don't want, so we're going to meet tomorrow and figure out if there's something that he needs done that I'd actually be interested in. It would be nice to have consistent work again, and coworkers, instead of whatever I can scrounge up.And you know what else makes me happy? New pictures of Alexander Skarsgard with short hair. I am terrified that Battleship is going to be the worst movie in the history of bad movies, and I will watch it five times anyway.

movies, the internet makes me happy, broadway!
