Okay, now that the show's over, I think there was something off with the camera work tonight. That's the only thing I can think of, because there were so many things that I just did not get tonight, even the routines that I really liked. Maybe I needed to sit closer to the TV and have the surround sound hooked up. Maybe - actually, maybe this is it - it's that I'm ruined for TV performances for a couple days since I saw live performances that I love yesterday.
Oh Tyce Diorio, no :( Blah, blah, journey, blah, blah, work. I wonder how much social pressure the producers or whoever are under from various people wanting their next 15 minutes on the judging panel. Because Tyce? is neither entertaining, nor useful, particularly when he's sitting right next to Mia.
Group routine: Hooray for Guys and Dolls instead of Damn Yankees, but wow, did I really hate the non-critique. And why didn't they talk to Mia at all?
Lauren, I loved tonight. She has phenomenal control over her body, and pretty much the complete opposite of Jose. I really wanted a tempo change at some point in the Argentine Tango, because half the fun of Argentine is the intricacy on top of the connection, but Lauren knocked it out of the park anyway. I felt the same distance from the Jazz routine as I did from almost everything else, but again, not her fault. I'd be surprised to see either of those routines in the finale, if she makes it. For my money, I'd request the "Collide" high school prom routine with Kent, and the hip hop with Twitch.
Tyce, so totally making up for a season of not talking. Ugh.
On to Robert and his matinee-idol looks. My Viennese Waltz wants more spinning, or Len Goodman to be there to judge, but I'm always happy to see a waltz choreographed by someone other than Jean-Marc and France, who are probably busy getting ready to drag down SYTYCD Canada. I'm kidding, sort of.
Robert is a marionette? I totally thought he was supposed to be Jigsaw when they were going to commercial. Because that's a big change from Ken Doll. *eyeroll* However, the actual routine totally exceeded my expectations, and I'd watch it again. I don't agree with Adam that Robert outdanced Dominic, but Robert is totally precise, and it worked for him. Some of his isolationy bits were better than Dominic's, for sure, but that's a style thing.
However: Dear Tabitha and Napoleon: you are not Wade Robson. Thanks for trying though. And HAHAHA the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Thanks Cat, for my nightmare fodder.
Bless Kent and his, "I got her up there." He really is a little dude. Since the Disco was pretty blah, and speaking of "When Love Takes Over" here's one of my favorite routines from last season's SYTYCD Canada:
TaraJean and Everett - House. SYTYCD Canada, less than two weeks! So excited.
This was Kent's second Travis Wall routine, right? Collide was Travis, right? Maybe that was Stacey. My brain, it is swiss cheese today.
Okay, I don't ship Kent and Neil, I refuse to ship Kent and Neil, or Kent's character and Neil's character, but on the other hand, hello my total narrative kink for best friends becoming lovers. Speaking of which, were you aware that there are a million teenagers out there shipping Lauren and Kent? I don't object, and I have no idea what truth their is to it, but it's sort of lolarious.
Er, did Nigel just run down Desmond Richardson with respect to Travis. I am okay with that, actually.
I am ready for AdeChike to go home now. I don't wish him ill, but he's just not getting there. He can go back to his non-popularity-contest contemporary, and do a lovely job with it, but he is not my winner.
I didn't understand why Kathryn didn't get the African Jazz routine, and I think her ability to be celebratory would have improved it immensely. I understand now that I know she was in the contemporary one, but I still wish that casting had been reversed. Or, actually, that they'd given Lauren's spot to Allison.
AdeChike
had more chemistry with the evil chair that Kent was in love with, literally, than he did with Katheryn. He certainly had more chemistry with Kent. He is a very pretty dancer, but I did not buy his celebration, and I did not buy that he was either in or aspiring to a fearless love. I don't care why girls make him nervous, but whichever reason it is, he needs to get over it. I also have to suspect that Ade is emotionally guarded a lot of the time like Billy is, and it is so not helping him, because it makes his blinding smile seem forced in a way that Robert's isn't. Oh, good God. I hate that I hate this, but I am not getting on your rags-to-riches story train.
If I were a cynical person, I would say that the producers were angling to get AdeChike more votes, what with the fact that his video package was after his second dance, closer to when voting opened, that he had his mentor choreographing *for* him. The uncynical me is going to assume it had to do with timing for costume changes. Please do not be checking my math or the relative complexity of people's costumes.
In case it's not clear, my hopes for the finale are Kent, Robert, and Lauren. My expectations for the finale are Kent, Robert, and AdeChike, because millions of teenage girls cannot be trusted. Why are you not idolizing Lauren and wearing the buttons off your phone voting for her?
I'm going to go vote for Lauren a hundred times, because bottom three last week, what the fuck?
