A few friendly reminders to the student body, now that examination time has come:
1) Staying up all night to revise, with or without the aid of artificial stimulants, is not good for one's overall health. More often than not, it is counterproductive. If you must cram a few extra hours in, go to bed at a normal time and wake up an hour earlier to prepare before the exam begins.
2) Contrary to students' lore, sleeping with your textbooks under your pillow will not transmit the knowledge to you in your sleep. Chances are, you'll only wake in the morning with a stiff neck from sleeping at an unnatural angle.
3) A solid breakfast, with meat and bread and juice and milk, will help your body fuel your brain. A slice of toast and a cup of tea is not nearly enough on an exam morning. (Nor, for that matter, is half a Chocolate Frog and whatever happens to be left from the bottle of butterbeer you had last night.)
4) Not to insult anyone's common sense, but a solid lunch and dinner are also good ideas.
5) Do not underestimate the ability of warm baths and showers to help relieve exam stress and physical tension, and aid in sleeping.
As always, please see me if you are troubled by any sort of stress-related physical complaint (e.g., migraine headaches, dizzy spells, stomach upset, and the like). Better to be told to swallow a potion and lie down for twenty minutes than to possibly miss an exam due to illness.
