It was evening, as Neric slowly made his way back up the ladders and along the branches toward the youth hall where he now made his home.  The Senate meeting had been long, and not particularly enjoyable--the people were afraid, both Kindar and Erdling, afraid of change, afraid of what the future might bring.  But still there was hope, and that was what he focused on--it was all they had, really.

It had been the right thing to do.  That much was completely clear.  The Erdlings had suffered so much underground, and needed to be freed, as soon as possible.  But perhaps they hadn't prepared the Kindar adequately enough for the many revelations--that there were no monsters living below the root but merely priests who wanted to keep the Kindar innocent, in the dark as far as their origins were concerned.  And now the Ol-zhaan were no more--returned to the status of ordinary men and women, which, after all, was all that most of them were.

He wanted to sleep.  The next day would bring more of the same troubles today had brought; the most he could hope for was that there would not be as many.

It had been the right thing to do.
