IIIIIIIII just realized Mulan was a movie about gay people. Shang was gay - think about it, he and Ping had some real moments before he found out Ping was a girl, and then he was incredibly upset after she, well, came out - and Mulan sang Reflections and had no problems incorporating herself into a man's world. She enjoyed dressing up at the beginning, but she enjoyed being a man, too. Huh.
