[OPEN TO ANYONE] Not everyone gets lucky at lunch

Aug 17, 2009 21:39

Cameron stabbed half-heartedly at her limp salad in the plastic container sitting before her. She blew some stray blond strands of hair out of her face and then tucked them behind her ear. Lunches these days were usually spent alone, unless Foreman managed to sync his break with her and they sat together. It was always weird, though. There was no Chase as a buffer and his absence wasn't something they could miss. Foreman didn't really care enough to question Cameron about the break up and purposefully avoided the subject, mostly sticking to work or hospital gossip to talk about. Cameron did appreciate it on some level, but it was still infuriating how Chase managed to avoid crossing her path so smoothly. If she passed an ER patient to Surgical, Chase was rarely even in the vicinity. If she paged Surgical to analyse a possible case, Chase never came to consult. If they somehow ended up in the same room, he never stuck around long and avoided making eye contact with her.

What was the bastard playing it? It was all his damn fault! He broke up with her, not the other way around. And she didn't even want to think about the reason why they ultimately ended up splitting. It made her blood boil too much. She stabbed furiously at a baby tomato and it slipped off the end of the plastic fork and shot out of the container and launched into the back of a nearby chair containing a visitor. She had the decency to blush slightly, watching the tomato come to rest under a nearby table. Oh well, that's what cleaners were paid for.

Work these days had become monotonous. In the wake of the terrible bus crash that nearly saw them lose Amber, people just seemed to be licking their wounds. It didn't make for much excitement. Now she didn't have Chase to bounce off, she was coming to dislike the ER more and more. House had been right about her attention span for it, even if she was adamant she liked it. She kind of liked it, but now that she split with Chase, it irked her regularly that she walked away from Diagnostic for him.

The bastard.
