I'll lay it out for you real quick - this has been the best weekend that I can remember in a long, long, long time.
Friday was Big Steve's birthday, so we all got together for that. Justin, Abram and I went out and got him a pink birthday cake with a crown and wand on it. We got candles, too! A "3" and a question mark.
"How old is he? 3?"
We hung out there for quite a bit, enjoying a cake that tasted like Twinkies and diabetes, while Little Steve and Abram acted out & sang along to some of their favorite records. It was like having on-stage seats for a rock opera double-header. It was pretty excellent.
Leticia showed up around midnight, after getting out of work, and we all headed down to the Monopole. It was pretty laid back there, and we just sort of hung out, ate food and watched ultimate fighting and AWA wrestling on the TVs there. Knowing that we had an early day ahead of us, we all went home.
Saturday morning, Little Steve, Justin and I headed over to the OLVA to do some suit-shopping. I picked up a DOOZY of a blue suit for three bucks, plus another blazer for a couple of dollars... which I later found out is meant to be worn by a lady. I think. I don't really know yet.
I also got a really sweet red jacket, which you can see here:
On the left up there, it says, "Scoma's" and "San Francisco" underneath it. I looked it up, and it's apparently a seafood restaurant. So, if you're ever hungry in San Francisco, stop by Scoma's! I recommend it.
Little Steve and I also got matching work coats with patches that read "Harveststore Systems." I don't know if we got any pictures in them, but we look completely bad ass and will wreck your shit if you get in our way. That's just how a team rolls.
That afternoon was the Senior Art Exhibition at the college. Little Steve was co-director of it, and our friend Jeremy had art in it, so a bunch of us went to see their speeches and check out some art. Big Steve and I also took this opportunity to wear slick suits and look generally dynamite, which is always a good time.
After that, Big Steve, Justin and I went over to Wooden Ski & Wheel to check out the bicycles. Justin bought one for himself, and I looked around a bit. I wasn't really expecting to buy one, but was really interested in looking at them so I could buy one soon. But we got talking to the owner (I think he's the owner), Ed, and he's pretty much the coolest old dude around. We all just sort of chatted for a little bit about whatever, and I asked him about the bikes. Told him what I was looking for, and I tried one out which felt immediately awesome. I wound up buying the bike right there, and it's probably going to be the best three hundred bucks I've spent/will spend in a while.
I just felt really good buying a bicycle from this dude. It's a local business, he's a genuinely nice and friendly guy (he even offered to deliver my bike that night if we couldn't fit it in the car!) and definitely isn't in "salesman" mode when trying to sell a bike - he's in "friendly guy who knows a lot and will help you out" mode. It ruled.
From there, we went over to Karma (an Indian restaurant) for some dinner. It was pretty delicious, and I'm glad we went. I've been wanting to for a while but never really had a chance to.
After, we sort of stood around Steve's for a bit trying to figure out where we could ride our bikes to, because we were excited at the prospect of having new bikes. We wound up heading over to 56, then to Jen's, then to Steve's, and then back to 56.
While at Steve's, we watched a bit of a documentary called "Speedo" about a demolition derby driver. It was exceptional, from what I saw.
There was a show at 56, which saw Dead Unicorn perform. OUTSTANDING! Their album is basically a radio drama about the dormant volcano at Yellowstone freakishly erupting and killing everyone in its path. They were incredible, and I'm going to try and get them back up here sometime in June for a show with us.
Then I biked over to campus to hang out with some folks and watch... uhhh... some awful monster movie, haha. I don't remember the name of it, but something about a monster from prehistoric times. It was Japanese, and basically a Godzilla ripoff. There was a scene that lasted about twenty five minutes consisting of tanks and planes shooting lasers at the monsters. I do not exaggerate when I say twenty five minutes. It was ludicrous, and everyone fell asleep.
Today we had a really awesome and short band practice. We wrote a straight-up rock and roll song and started on a tribute to Heavy Metal Gary, a heavy metal-loving dude who lives in Plattsburgh and goes to lots of shows. He rules.
Then, Little Steve, Justin, Abram, Travis, Leticia and myself all went up to Point Au Roche to ride bikes on the bike trails up there. I'd never been, and with the great weather and new bicycles, everyone has been really excited about getting out and being active. We're also starting a bicycle gang, which may or may not be called "Rolling Thunder." Or "Lighting Straddlers." Or "The Coming Storm." Or "Plattsburgh Bike Tuff" (which may just be our tagline for use with any other name).
Home now, finally clean and smelling like a cool guy after a nice shower. Tonight, we're having a campfire at Travis' with vegan dogs and S'mores!
I'm gonna save this draft and come back to finish it after the campfire. I fucking love this weekend.

So, it's Monday night now. The campfire was awesome fun. Ate a bunch of vegan hotdogs and an abundance of S'mores. We all sat around and had raging nerd arguments about Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter and Mortal Kombat, arguing their importance as fighting video games. Abram and Justin almost came to blows over a dispute on Super Mario Bros. arcade games. We discussed the pros and cons of being able to fly, and realized that teleportation is way cooler. If you flew too high, you'd wind up out of oxygen and incredibly cold. With teleportation, you can keep it low key and basically get the same value as flying without the hassle.
We are nerds, and it is great.
Justin posted a bunch of pictures of the first ROLLING THUNDER meeting on Sunday
right here. I'm too lazy and tired to post them myself.
Most of the weekend was great, marred only by something on Sunday night. Decided it'd be best to end the short-lived relationship with Kaycee. I thought I'd feel perfectly fine and normal about ending things, but I do sort of feel weird now. I know it was the right thing to do, because we were both just having too much trouble with things. We rushed into things too quickly and didn't take the time to find out who each other really is.
It's tough, because it's not an end where I can blame someone or be angry or point to a cause or be happy that it's over. Just two different people looking for two different things, and it sucks... because hanging out together was always excellent, excellent fun. Everything just felt sort of instantly easy and comfortable, and that doesn't usually happen with me.
But it's for the best. I'll keep on telling myself it's for the best.
