Headbanger goes to school...oh yeah, and Chelsea too
First things first. It was 101 degrees today, with a heat index of 104. Frankly, after 100, I just think we should quit measuring and say "hell-hot." Apparently it will be hell-hot again tomorrow. And there was much rejoicing....yay. We will have a cold snap this weekend, and it will only be in the low 90's. Drag out the parka.
The weather will also be in the 90's in Bristol, TN, which is where the memorial service for soldier from Troop F will take place. In the armory, which is not air-conditioned, with about 500 people in attendance. The service itself will be very moving, I think. There will be a color guard present, Last Roll Call will be held, a bagpiper will play "Amazing Grace," and after the public ceremony, the Troop will give the soldier a true Cavalry send-off (much beer will be drunk and stories told). I have to say, this service will affect me twofold. First, the soldier was a really great guy, and he was loved by everyone. Second -- and more selfishly -- we are within weeks, perhaps, of Bill's unit getting another deployment alert. It's hard to attend a military memorial while looking at your husband in his dress greens and knowing he may be going back soon. Jeeze O'Crow, I have to get over this.
Today C and I went to her new school and registered her. We got a supply list of the usual stuff, and we will meet her teachers on Friday, Aug. 27th. The school itself is very nice. Upon walking in the front door, you are greeted by a beautiful mural of children's lit. figures: The Cat in the Hat, Rainbow Fish, Arthur, Harry Potter, The Wild Things, and more. Whoever painted it (I couldn't find a signature) did a fantastic job. Chelsea seemed very comfortable there, so that's a plus.
Tomorrow we will head out to Walmart (shudders) and buy school supplies. And Bill had requested a carrot cake (ok, I helped put that idea in his mind...so sue me), so I'll pick up one of those as well.
I've GOT to get back to the workout room. I'm very lazy during a certain week of the month. You do the math.
