The Triangle of Pain and Death

Okay, now I know that most of you who read my blog have already heard my feelings about the whole "triangle symposium" mess. However, most of that was venting. I would like to take this time to thank all my friends... well, most of my friends who listened to me vent my hatred ( Read more... )

Okay I'm not gonna pull punches. We can call the GBC whatever we want for pulling ties with Mercer. But the fact still stands. Alex may not be here because the triangle symposium decided to throw alternate lifestyles into people's faces and got the GBC involved. Now in their defense they as a group have the right to do that under the first amendment. We can't censor them. However this is a private BAPTIST university, funded by private donations to a large degree, IN THE FREAKING SOUTH! That's like me a young black man attending Bob Jones University. I'm not going to go somewhere where I am going to be scrutinized just to make a point. So why bother coming to a Baptist University in the South that has a reputation for being liberal minded but is still in effect run by BAPTISTS who don't believe in what they're emphasizing!? You have to expect to be isolated to some degree because of your beliefs if you are a member of this symposium due to these factors. Seems to me if you had a grain of sense you would go with going to a more "liberal minded" college where this sort of thing is more accepted whether then trying to cram it down the throats of people who are not going to listen. But that's just my POV. I'm tempted to side with Alex on this issue. Allow me to state here that I have no problem with homosexuals or members of this symposium as individuals. They have however screwed over quite a number of people in thier bid to make themselves known. We can pissed at the GBC for being intolerant, but you can't blame them that much because they are the ones that pay for a lot of this stuff and Mercer has been a black sheep for a long time. Granted most of us want an education without the conversion, (I'm a Methodist) and who are they to tell us what we can and can't learn? But it's the people that have the power that get to make decisions. Alex, sorry bro, both the GBC and the Triangle Symposium. have effectively screwed you. I hope things turn out okay. It would really suck if you couldn't come back to Mercer becuase of people that you have had no contact with. Peace man.

See? That's what I'm saying. head_of_flame November 16 2005, 16:01:45 UTC
Thank you, Kellen. I at least know that I still have one friend at Mercer. Your post summed up my entire reasoning for placing the blame mainly on the symposium. I didn't really bother to write it out in the post, mainly because I didn't know exactly what to say. I figured it would be rather apparent to most people, but apparently I was wrong. Thanks for your sympathy.
