My wife gave me a new hoodie:
And a certificate of questionable achievement:
I also received 200 bucks from my family (bro-in-law, grandma, parents, and mom-in-law) which I've spent as I stated I would, a pre-order of Star Trek from great friends of my wife and mine, another order of the Mega Super Special Edition of The Watchmen from our good friend (and now neighbor!), Season 2 of Burn Notice from my brother, a crap ton of mechanical pencils and some wicked binders and an even more wicked shirt from my mom-in-law, a free foray out to the shooting range with my best bud, and solid marble bookends from my wife.
What's better, I ordered a GM screen for
Wayfarers (a game I'm designing a setting for... slowly but surely) and was pleasantly surprised to find an e-mail asking if the creators could delay it, as they wanted to put a little something special in it! Wow! This is a damn good birthday!
We originally intended to go to a forested park until my father took me rock-climbing at another park. Where we climbed was so gorgeous, we immediately agreed to change our plans. The rock-climbing went great and the instructor (my former elementary school gym teacher!) stated that if I kept at it I'd be one hell of a good rock-climber. As it was, my dad kicked some ridiculous ass. Must be the genetic stubbornness...
It rained, unfortunately. As we went to check the covered picnic area, we found some people packing up and decided to hold off until more of them left. One guy stayed packing up, and so we made out move. Lo and behold, it was the rock-climbing instructor! When hw found out we were there to celebrate my birthday, he gave me a chalk bag full of Clif Bars and said, "At the rate you climbed, I think you'll be wanting a harness to match this bag here pretty soon."
He invited us to go climbing with him next spring for no charge, just as friends. He goes for bike rides with my father and seems to enjoy our company.
Anyways, the rain stopped and we had a blast spending a night roasting some huge-normous Mexican marshmallows. Seriously, they were the size of big-ass apples.
Yes.
I'm very happy.
Ah, since this the first time there's been a picture of us on here, here's a nice one of my wife and me!
