The day had been sombre as was tradition. Gifts were given early in the morning, opened and appreciated. Flowers were placed at the headstone and tears shed. In the afternoon most people moved out to sit in the garden watching him and knowing not to approach. Each year didn’t make the pain any less, each year they knew to give George space to sit and just be with Fred. It was what he needed.
With a soft crack the small family appeared at the garden gate smiling happily greeting everyone making their way over to empty seats. Once they’d hugged everyone the two boys shared a look before sneaking out behind their mum and running to sit on each side of George. Watching them Molly walked closer not wanting to disturb them but wanting to hear.
George glanced at them each in turn with a blank expression before smiling softly.
“Happy birthday uncle George” Lysander handed him a card that looked home made, covered in glued on stars and glitter that was already falling off.
“Happy birthday uncle Fred” Leaning forward Lorcan placed a matching card between all the flowers and next to it a small box. “We saved up our allowance and got your favourite colours.”
Smiling more George put an arm around each twin hugging them.
“His favourites? Even those lilac ones that are really rare these days?”
Nodding Lorcan leaned against George’s shoulder.
“It’s his birthday uncle George! He has to have his favourites.”
Molly smiled listening to their discussion over the colours. As they had grown the Scamander twins had been the ones to get through to George on bad days. Most of the family thought it must be a twin thing. An understanding above anything they could have for the loss George felt. Moving back to the others Molly watched as George lifted up the box and walked off to the end of the garden with Lorcan and Lysander.
The dark sky was lit up by the fireworks that moved from red and gold to blues and finally lilac.

Oh, that's heartbreaking. George's birthday, and the little twins getting lilac fireworks! *sniffles* Just beautiful!
