What a beautiful, beautiful story. I've never read one that shows the horror of year seven, the truly staggering fear and despair and imprisonment, how they're ALL caught in it, and how Draco was able to tread the thin line of appeasing the Death Eaters at Hogwarts and still keep a sliver of his humanity. I love how we're learning, as gradually as him, what kind of man he really is.
Your characters are REAL, with REAL struggles of conscience- trying to balance a need to give mercy, when no one but yourself is expecting, or asking you, to with the heart-clenching, rushing necessity for self-preservation. These are people I can understand and feel so much for. Every tiny, and not so tiny, act of bravery and defiance and kindness is so much more powerful and precarious and terrifying and HEROIC because of this.
There is no question that Draco is ALL of us when trapped in circumstance. And doing better than most.
This is the kind of story that makes me question just how brave I would be in similar circumstances, and that makes it even more valuable than 'just' entertainment. Not that I don't like 'just' entertainment, lol, but I love stories like this even more.
And I'm only on part two. lol. I already wish it was longer.
Sorry for the indulgent,not-so-satisfactorily-worded review: I found this at 5:30 in the morning when I couldn't sleep, and now I have to get the kiddies off to school and rush to work.

But I'll be back. :)
