Author's Notes: Happy HD Holidays, mayfly_78. I was really drawn to your prompt about peacocks, because I like peacocks (at a distance, though; one chased me down, once. I was in his territory, but still). At the same time, I liked the fairy-tale prompt. I spent a lot of time too many different ideas before I bounced a single line at a friend and the first impression of this story finally lurched into existence via our conversation (mostly her). I'll probably share that conversation, and the other ideas that were like great-aunts to this, after the reveals. In any case, there are fairy-tales and peacocks, or rather, the semblance of both. I really enjoyed working on this for you and I hope you like it. Cheers to the mods for their hard work. All my gratitude to my beta, M, especially for helping to streamline the final scenes. Any mistakes remaining in this are my own, and please feel free to point them out. Thanks to A for that conversation that turned one tentative idea into this entire fic, and thanks to the ever-patient H for humouring me one day when I was trying to find a word that meant guardian and finally gave me a one that's probably used more in World of Warcraft these days, so my apologies to WoW players in advance; however, when I was looking up the definitions for the word, both WoW-related and otherwise, most of the attributes I wanted applied so well.
