I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I stopped drawing for a long time-- since I was a child, really-- and have only just recently taken up drawing (as well as painting and digital coloring).

I have actually come across artsy posts where the artist claims to have used a beta (plausible, since one can always use a second or third eye. Art betas aren't as well known as fic betas, but I'm sure they're out there. In any case, that's a really good idea.

Sorry that I can't provide more help!

Betas are always a good idea, in my opinion. I write stories as well on occasion and I know that I'd be lost without my beta. It's more than just correcting grammar and spelling. It's getting a second opinion and fresh view. It's having someone to bounce ideas off, and on occasion hold your hand while you have a panic attack.

So yeah, betas are marvelous people and we should love them!

I'm fully aware of what betas are capable of (as I rely on them hugely, particularly the woman who betas for me the most. She's a bloody saint). I was really just referring to art betas, since I honestly can't imagine just what one would do but be a second/third eye and give the occasional suggestion. I can't see them editing one's work. Even so, this is based on my limited knowledge and experience of seeing them work, so... =0

Sorry if I came across as critical, I didn't mean it!

You're right, a beta can't edit your art. That would be near impossible. But sometimes just having someone listen to you ramble is enough...

Anyway, I went off on a tangent before, because I seriously think betas are brilliant and their invaluable help should alaways be aknowledged.

But I didn't mean my previous comment as any sort of put down or what ever! Heavens no! I just sometimes get carried away and stress my opinion too strongly.

Oddly, I just had an Art Beta sign up over at HD Smoochfest. Normally I don't recommend gakking anyone from another comm, but we don't have many artists in the fest (and it's my fest :D) so you might check it out and ping her...

If you don't ask, you will never find out, I have always said. Thanks so much for telling me about the art beta, maybe I'll gather up my courage and tap her on the shoulder to see if she's interrested...

Thanks!

I have been spending a lot of time lately drooling over stuff done by other artists and trying to work out how they do things. I'm an architect and drawing people is so damn hard! I'm used to simple geometrical forms and sharp lines...

Thanks so much for your kind offer. You might receive an odd email in the future - and you will only have yourself to blame - but for now the amazing raitala has given me plenty of pointers and food for thought.

Feel free to be as relentlessly critical as you want when I finally finish the Harry/Draco project I'm working on and post it here.

Thanks again. This fandom is just full of lovely people!
