Shades of Black, White and Grey

“Now for partner assignments,” Kingsley said. “Brown and Adams, Marks and Smith, Weasley and Boyle, Potter and Malfoy. Report to the DMLE office for case assignments.”
“Good luck,” Ron mouthed at Harry before leaving with Boyle.
Harry blushed. I should never have mentioned my crush. “Ready?” he asked Malfoy.
“You know, Potter, the world isn’t black or white. There are shades of grey,” Malfoy murmured.
Harry frowned. “What?”
“I saw what Weasley did.” Malfoy rose. “I’m sure you can get reassigned if you’re uncomfortable working with me.”
“I’m not.” Harry smiled. “I’m comfortable.”
Malfoy smirked. “We’ll see for how long.”

“How are things with Malfoy?” Ron asked weeks later.
Harry blushed, trying to ignore Ron’s sly expression. “Nothing’s going on.”
“Yet.” Ron grinned. “Give it time.”
Harry raised an eyebrow. “I thought you’d hate the idea.”
Ron shrugged. “I did at first, but then Hermione reminded me about the way you followed him around in school--”
“Yes, I remember,” Malfoy, his grey eyes sparkling, said, slipping into a seat across from them.
Harry rolled his eyes. “I thought you were plotting something at the time,” he muttered.
Draco smirked. “How do you know I’m not now?”
Ron, chuckling, excused himself.

“You were plotting,” Harry whispered as, hours later, they lay entwined.
Draco laughed softly. “Someone had to,” he said. “If I’d waited for you, we’d still be back at the office, eye-fucking.”
“Doing what?” Harry sniggered.
“You heard.” Draco rolled onto Harry. Harry could just make out his face in the grey of the dim room. “And while eye-fucking can be enjoyable, I prefer the real thing.”
“So do I,” Harry whispered. “Told you I was...comfortable with you.”
“Mm.” Draco lowered his head. “Evidently you weren’t lying.”
“I’m Gryffindor!” Harry protested.
Draco smirked. “As I said, black and white.”
