Word Count: 100
Other Characters: None
Challenge: War
Author's Notes: Okay, so I wrote this one a long time ago too, but never actually finished it until now. That being said, it's not exactly canon-compliant, and I just edited it a bit to work in some vague references to Draco on the tower in HBP. Other than that, it was meant to be immediately post-final battle, and is a little abstract and weird (I don't exactly remember where I wanted it to go when I wrote it originally).
__________
Her scales against my skin in ways your fingers never were, her drying blood warm on my body the way your breath never was, I don’t bother to look for you in the crowd.
My feet stumble as I try to walk, and my wand shakes in my hand, having coerced more magic from my veins than I ever thought possible.
My voice never trembled as I took his life; I never faltered.
The snake around my shoulders like a cloak, a first tribute to my victory, I realize that, in the end, I wasn’t any stronger than you were.
