Sparkle

It was strange that it was his sweater that Harry noticed first.

Not his signature white-blond hair, nor his now broad shoulders, his slim build, but the way the jewel-toned green sweater brought out the sparkle of his grey eyes.

And the way it clung to his former enemy in all the right places.

They had a gulf, an ocean between them, and yet Harry was drawn to him, as he always had been.

He touched that shoulder, the wool soft beneath his fingers, and Draco turned to look at him.

Harry stuck out his hand. “Hello, Draco,” he said.

Inner Fire

The green wool sweater made Draco think of him the moment he saw it, so he bought it.

Only one person had eyes like emeralds, like jewels that burned with inner fire.

When Draco wore the sweater he imagined it caressed him, as he’d hoped Harry one day might.

So foolish.

Their enmity was long past, yet they could never be friends. They merely coexisted in the same world.

The hand came out of nowhere, and the heat of that touch warmed Draco to his toes. He knew who it was even before he turned around.

“Hello, Draco.”

Draco smiled.
