We had great pleasure looking through all the amazing fills posted to the community (and plan to continue enjoying ourselves during the amnesty round). We tried to pick out several fills that caught our attention in the Round One and share them with you.
Follow You Down (Bandom) by
prettykitty_aya Ryan hits hard and sinks quickly.
Why you should check this out: This story has a great premise - two charcters are fallen angels - and we were especially intrigued by the implied differences in their landings. Also we loved the reactions of the other characters to the sudden appearance of the impossible in their lives.
Here You Remain /
bingo post (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger) by
nightswhisperTakeru tries to understand why his most loyal retainer remains at his side when he has no loyalty to him any longer-when the laws of their world would take everyone from him.
Why you should check this out: The way the images move from monochrome filters to color is gorgeous. Its focus on how Takeru constantly watches is great.
More Than Enough (The Vorkosigan Saga) by
chryssalysBarrayarans fear mutation.
Why you should check this out: Quiet, beautiful and dignified story about Barrayar dealing with Miles' condition from through the years, starting with Cordelia and ending with Miles himself.
Nine Simple Isotopes (White Collar) by
arsenicjadeIn this universe, Neal doesn't put caselaw and a tracking anklet on the table; he puts caselaw and a one-way neural-fuse there.
Why you should check this out: Amazing application of a "magic" trope to a decidedly non-magic setting, and a fascinating exploration of the characters as seen by their responses to a most unusual situation.
Old Wounds (Transformers) by
hellkittyMindwipe/Skystalker
Why you should check this out: The descriptions of a Transformer's infected wounds are great and the quiet moment the two character share at the end of the story has a lot of emotional punch to it.
Sing A New Tune (Chronicles of Pern) by
merfillyPetiron has time to reflect in retirement.
Why you should check this out: Petiron is such an enigmatic character in the Pern stories. Why did he choose to go against convention and train young Menolly? This was a beautiful character study. Plus we loved the creative approach to 'loss of vision' as the prompt.
Sometimes Reprieve (Bandom) by
morganyaFanmix for the Stokholm Syndrome prompt.
Why you should check this out: We were doubtful about the possibility of creating a hurt/comfort fanmix, and got (happily) proven wrong. The way this story is told using the songs instead of text is crafty and smart, and William's journey itself is both sad and hopeful all at once.
The Tragic Tale of Imhotep and Anuk-su-Namun (The Mummy) by
meridian_roseIcons, Picspam, Wallpapers and Meta
Why you should check this out: The icons tell a story, the picspam tells the same story in a different way, the wallpapers are gorgeous and the meta ties it all together. Beautiful.
