Don't hate me too much.

I really didn't like book six.

Plot twist, where are you? )

Maybe my love of chapter one had to do with my giddiness of getting the book, but I think most of it was I loved how it showed the wizarding world through the eyes of a muggle. Not a muggle raised wizard, like Harry or Tom, who always knew they were a little different but simply a muggle. We got to see JKR's world (which we are all very familiar with) as though it's all strange and new. I really enjoyed that in comparison to how, usually, Dumbledore or Hermione is always around to explain every little thing as through it is noting unusual or strange.

I don't think it had much to do with what I wanted not happening so much as what happened to be so predictable that it bored me. It isn’t that I knew what was going to happen before I even picked up the book - I had no idea! - but as the book progressed I seemed to pick up on everything before it happened. I always knew Dumbldore was going to die (I always figured Sirius had to die as well. The Hero has to be left without a parent figure to save them), Snape and Draco’s quest was rather clear from the beginning (she does dedicate an entire chapter to it, after all), and the information about Tom Riddle was either easy to infer from the other books or quick to pick up on in this one. I don’t know, usually I have this wonderful sense of suspended disbelief where I can’t foresee anything any better than the characters, but in this one it seemed to easy to pick up on. Maybe that’s just me, though. Maybe I watch too much CSI for my own good.

I do understand this book is setting the scene for book seven, and maybe that’s part of the lack of mystery, but it was still a disappointment. Of course, I’ve never been fond of the go-between books that set up the rest of the plot. I prefer it being stuck in with the action.

I understand I might be in the minority with disliking parts of book six, and thank you for not blowing up at me. ^^
