Odd theory on why Snape did what he did afheather July 16 2005, 10:01:34 UTC
Okay, we know that Snape was bound in one of the first chapters to Narcissa. Maybe he was trying to protect Malfoy from becoming a Death Eater and doing what Dumbledore had suggested to Malfoy in the tower. Malfoy and his mother would be hidden away and protected from Lord Voldemort because he thought they were dead. Snape, not really having much to lose, took the bond, even though he knew Malfoy couldn't kill Dumbledore and he would have to in order to save Draco from becoming Voldemorts right hand man. If you couldn't follow that, sorry, Snape still a good guy in that he wants to defeat Voldemort, but he knew that Dumbledore would be killed, if not by Malfoy, by someone else. He took the bond so that Malfoy and his mother would be protected while he did the actual deed.

RAB- Most definitely Regulus (Algernon) Black

RAB is totally Regulus Black.
p.106: Lupin talking about Karakroff:
"...I'm surprised he stayed alive for even a year after deserting the Death Eaters; Sirius's brother, Regulus, only managed a few days as far as I can remember."

So we know now that Regulus deserted the Death Eaters and was killed by them for it.

Isn't there something Sirius says in OOTP about that?

I'm gonna go check! I'm too worked up from reading the whole thing in 6 hours to go to sleep...

Yep, page 112 in the US version of OOTP (CHap 6).
Sirius talks about how he understands the situation to be that Regulus was an idiot who chickened out once he found out what Voldie wanted him to do... but what if Reg was really more virtuous or smart than that and found out about the horcruxes and tried to destroy them?
Well, theres some new fanfiction inspiration for ya!

Concerning Snape I was thinking along those lines as well.
Even when he escaped, he didn't seem like he didn't care for Harry. And he was bound to ang I guess also wanted to protect Draco.
I am wondering what JKR has planned for him in book VII I doubt he will be found like Karakoff. He'll might be rather important.
Wahat do you think.
If that would be all, why woulf JKR had developed his character the way she did.

I just realized...when Dumbledore says "Severus" to him, Harry says it sounds like he's pleading. Perhaps he's pleading for death? For Snape to kill him, so Malfoy can remain pure (or as pure as the little git can be)?
