Progress is slow.
I am researching my chosen thesis topic and it is harder than I thought it would be. I decided to make my question, How has the demise of ATSIC effected Indigenous Australians? It has allowed me to focus on some things but I am not quite sure how I want to go about approaching the question. I think Aborigines have been effected in a number of ways. I think the media portrayal of ATSIC's leaders has changed the public perception of Indigenous sovereignty. I think Indigenous Australians lack a true voice without ATSIC and this has removed Indigenous issues from the political agenda. I am not just looking at the penultimate decision to disband ATSIC I am looking at the factors which lead to this occurence. The ATSIC snub of John Sneddon, Howard's ten point plan in relation to the land rights act and the problems ATSIC has faced. I want to know why ATSIC suffered such bureaucratic bundles. I want to know why only 35 percent of Indigenous Australians voted in ATSIC elections. How have Indigenous Australians responded to the governments decisions. Well this is my life for the next 8 months. I hope to expand on it a bit more and look at some more pressing issues. Any ideas leave a comment.
