Excited about good teamwork in our
SCA shire this month.
1) Every person who is at all active in our shire made a contribution to staffing, prep work, crafting items, cooking, etc. or more than one of these for our local event on the last day of April. Even those who were not available to attend the event (or not in its entirety) were giving of their talents ahead of the event date.
2) When a proposal was made (at the shire meeting on the Monday immediately following our local spring event, no less) to hold an A&S-only event in our shire in the fall, enthusiastic volunteering and encouraging support for the concept were immediate and positive. Good, challenging questions were posed and discussion about whether the event might be ill-timed was held without dampening spirits or creating an anti-event faction. By the way, the event is in fact going forward, so save the date of Oct. 1, 2011 to come to Baile na Scolairi for a day of classes and artisanal display.
3) Excellent turnout for the shire project night making hand-bound blank books and for our annual demo at a local middle school. For a demo held for three hours in the middle of the morning on a weekday, I'm impressed two years in a row with how many shire members are able to get there to give short presentations and display armed combat. There were more helpers than we had chairs at the table for on bookmaking night, and most of the job expected to take two nights was done on the first one. This is even when half the people helping were just learning the basics of bookbinding for the first time.
