Will Illinois soon be as progressive as Iowa?

Dec 02, 2010 17:35

As of today, both the House and Senate in the Illinois Statehouse have passed legislation allowing for a legally-recognized civil union for gay couples. If signed by the governor, the law would take effect next June.

While I would be glad to see this law take effect, I expect that if the governor approves, it will result in ugly backlash. Here's hoping that the lash isn't so ugly that it will open up the door to a "let's return to old values" Rod Blagojevich run for governor.
