House hunting

Feb 14, 2011 15:38

So for the past two years on and off we have been house hunting but we finally needed to kick it into gear with the upcoming arrival of baby girl. We currently live in a 3 bedroom townhouse and it is fine but once the baby arrives it will quickly become overcrowded. Now I know some would say why can't Kyle and Keenan share a room, well Kyle will be starting kindergarten in the fall (gah) and he will have to be up at 6:30 to get on the bus by 7:15 and Keenan does not wake up that early nor do I want to start him too. So we are looking for a 4 bedroom single family which isn't that difficult, the difficult part is my husband. First we started just by looking in our county which is where I want to stay so that was fine well then he changed his mind and wants to just look at land to build a log home on, okay I am fine with that. Well the land thing just didn't work out because the town we were looking in has some crazy soil laws in terms of septic. So we were looking again at many resales but then he was looking online and found some houses in West Virginia so I appeased him and we went looking. I was very unhappy when looking at what we thought were nice houses. There were no grocery stores around, closest would be 30 minutes, and it would be a farther drive to work for Jason. So I thought we were done with WV but nope Jason dragged me out there again this past weekend. It was a new development in WV but it was tiny and didn't have a community pool or any play areas and the houses were small and laid out very strange. Now I am fine not living in a development and I don't need those amenities but if I am going to live in one and pay an HOA fee then I want a pool and a play area. I am getting frustrated because Jason just keeps talking about this community and I keep telling him I don't like it but it is not sinking in with him. I even pulled up the "report cards" for the schools and they faired poorly compared to those in our county right now.

I guess my next choice will be to weigh out the pros and cons for him. Tell me what you guys think of my list.

Pros
-cheaper mortgage
-brand new house
-move in by summer

Cons
-over an hour drive from our friends we see 2-3 times a week
-not as good schools
-have to pay extra for pool membership someplace
-longer drive for Jason
-no walking trails and not sure about sidewalks in neighborhood
-haven't found many kids activities nearby
- still lots of construction to do in neighborhood so lots of construction vehicles and noise

I know I am missing main points but I can't think of them. Any help would be appreciated.
