I am home from my trip. It was busy and awesome fun.
I might do this in three posts. I went to London, New York and Las Vegas.
Ill start with London.
London is amazing. I've been there three times but you can never get sick of it. I stayed with my step brother who lives in Chelsea. Its this cute little apartment on Kings Road. We were so lucky to get a place in an awesome part of town and didn't cost a thing.
Oh while I was there I saw Pan's Labyrinth.
I have wanted to see this movie for ages and finally I watched it. I loved it. It follows a young girl who is taken to a small camp during the war in Spain. Her mother is pregnant and not doing to well and her husband is a horrible and savage General or something during the war. Excuse the names cos I totally cannot remember them.
The young girl loves fairy tales and hears of a young princess who is stuck within a human in the mortal world. The kingdom is constantly searching for the her. The young girl starts to see fairies and meets a faun who says that she is the princess but must past some test to prove that she is worthy of joining her family back in the kingdom. Ok the creatures were amazing. The crazy and fisty fairies were great. I LOVED the faun. He was huge, creepy and looked amazing on screen. He looked scary yet he was intriging. No wonder the girl was drawn towards him. The faun gave her many tasks. Going underground to find a key but was not able to touch the amazing feast set out on the table otherwise a child eating creature would wake up. That was cool. This crazy creature with eyes in his palms strapped to a chair. When she does take one little grape he wakes up and comes after her. I can't really explain it all cos I watched it over a month ago but its amazing.
I love how they have told this story about a young girl during the war and how she was able to cope with all the horrors occuring around her. They did this through the use of her amazing imagination. She was able to escape her horrible step-dad, sick/dieing mother and the violence all around her by entering this fantastical world. Here she is a princess, she is able to be strong enough to help her mother /the plant under her bed/, build her character and face her fears by escaping the child eater and that horrible toad in the cave. They are all exagerated and more vial and horrible and she is able to face them and become stronger. I loved all the creatures and the darkness of the filming. It was pretty violet and I think that it needed to be so that you can relate and understand why she would want to escape the horror.
The ending was extremely sad. I cried. Though I hated that she had to die at least she left this world and entered another one where she was happy and had people around her who she loved and loved her.
I highly recommend it.
We arrived in London at like 5:30am in the morning so we had the entire day ahead of us. My friend and I were exhausted but we took advantage of being actually wide awake and explored the city.
We walked down Kings Rd and up to Harrod's. Ive done all the tourists things but because my friend has never been overseas it was fun showing her around and just being in the city. Its so old with so much history. Its such a contrast to Australia which is a very young country. I love all the old buildings and that all the stores are all fancy and in beautiful buildings.
We totally randomly came across Victoria Station and saw that that was where the tour buses start from. Yes. We decided to do that cos then we would at least see all the main stuff and not have to walk for ages and get lost etc. This was cheap and lasted for 48 hours. Awesome!
I love Convent Gardens and SoHo so we caught the Underground there and walked around a bit looking at shops and taking in the atmosphere and the people.
Ok by the afternoon I could barely keep my eyes open so we headed home, bought grocerys, made some toast, /mmm iam obsessed with toast and honey its an addiction/ and I CRASHED hard. Like I always wake up at the smallest sounds but I was out cold. My friend was up for ages and talking with my step brother, nope heard nothing. Oh but I was wide awake at 1am, yeah but was able to get back to sleep and woke up around 8.30am and went for a run. COLD! So weird having to run with beanies, gloves and long sleeves. LOL.
We headed towards Victoria Station and hoped on the bus. First stop was Buckingham Palace. We than saw all the other main attractions: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London and London Bridge.
OMG I was so excited because I was going to see Mary Poppins. Its one of my favourite Disney films so I couldn't wait. Had dinner near the theatre in SoHo than the show. It was fantastic. It was so much fun. There was a few differences from the film but it was amazing. I loved Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and the whole sequence on the roof top. I don't have the names, but the two who played Mary and Burt were really good. 'Mary' was spot on and totally pulled off the practically perfect image that her character is famous for. Burt was Burt. Man I love that character. The actor was also very hot so that was a bonus. The set was great. The huge house on Cherry Tree Lane had that dollhouse affect where its in half so we see whats going on inside. I loved in particular how Mary Poppins climbed the stairs it was so structured and perfect. LOL. Oh and Burt and Mary are so cute. I have always shipped them. So cute. They have an adorable moment at then end and I was so fangirling at that moment. LOL.
The next day we did more of the tour bus. We went to the London Eye, had to wait an hour, hell no. We came back later when there were less people. It was good but Id done it so ya know. Did more walking around, back to Soho, Picadilly Circus, Oxford Street, did a bit of shopping. Had dinner again in SoHo /man i love that area/ and then back home cos we were seriously tired. We were saving party time for New York and Vegas.
Our final day we went to the Portobello Markets which are always fun and interesting. Caught the bus there and walked up and down looking at all the stalls of jewelery, foods and antiques. We went back to Tower of London cos it was a long wait last time and actually went inside. I love it here its so cool and full of history. We saw the Crown Jewels and looked around the towers and saw a heap. The Beefeaters were the tour guides and they are awesome. They have so much enthusiasm and they seem to enjoy what they do which makes the audiences enjoy it more. Lastly we did more shopping cos hello its me and hello we are in London. I bought some Burberry perfume which is soooo yummy. I also got a random call from my Aunty that she was in London and did I wanna catch up? Yeah! So I caught up with them which was great. I always love seeing my cousin cos we are both so into music and theatre and stuff so we fan girled over Wicked which I hadn't seen yet but I was in like three days and she had just seen it so that was fun.
Went home early cos we had to be up at 4am to catch a plane to NYC!
That was a rant about London. My hands are tired from typing so Ill post others later. I am actually going to see 27 Dresses so when I am back am gonna update more.
Hope everyone one is good and that everyone had a fun and safe New Year!
xoxo
