FIRST OF ALL, ARTISTS; read this post from craigslist from a fellow artist who is also tired of the pathetic job offers:

and now for a rather irritating note on dA regarding commissions:

How much would you charge for 3 guys and 1 girl? All would be full instead of half body.
----------
Nyurt said the following:
4 full body clean lines + cel shade = $50 @ 25% off (~$38)
----------
Hazel-Eye-Lover said the following:
That's too much money.
I'll go find someone else.
----------
Nyurt said the following:
suit yourself. :\ considering the amount of work i put into commissions, it seems fair enough.
----------
Hazel-Eye-Lover said the following:
Yeah and I know better artists than yourself who ALSO put a lot of effort into their commissions and don't charge ridiculous prices. People ARE NOT made out of money  but I guess it does makes sense why you have no customers.

idk, some people just really rub me the wrong way.
some more excerpts:

"people aren't made of money, you're an idiot."
well, artists don't vomit wonders in 30 minutes either. sorry I take the time to research detail, test 4-5 different sketch-poses and clean my lineart in single strokes, not to mention have the patience to email you the progress so you can nitpicking and add hours onto my work. some people are so ignorant I want to take a steel pipe to their backs and cripple them, so they can suffer like the starving artists in the world.

Being an artist is hard. You have to be proud, professional, hold your head high, and refuse to give in to jobs that belittle your worth. Even if it means skipping a meal here and there.

It's sad how artists are often looked down upon. I mean, I keep getting people who tell me, "Oh, animation isn't that hard, it's just drawing," and I just want to rip their throats out. Ugh.
Just gotta learn to shut out the idiots, and the people who really see the value in you/your art are those who are worth the most. All the others can go eat shit, with their shitty rooms that have shitty designs because they can't coordinate for shit and shitshitshit.

people who can spit out what they learnt from a textbook can go suck it, real talent comes from having to be creative to achieve your goals.

And it's not even a contest of who spends more time where. Becoming a doctor is hard as fuck, yeah, but there's always a demand, and students get taken on by doctors in hospitals and/or apprenticeships elsewhere. Person needs heart surgery? Oh we studied that, the procedure is like this.
"draw me a portrait of a young busty woman from the 1600 period." does not have a methodical answer. It's a lot of work, and on the spot research. We don't just flip through some pages, find the image and pull it out our ass. even if you ARE good at what you do, artists are always out of a job and hunting. Hell, we're scared ben won't get rehired for the fall. And he stays til 11pm most nights. (no O/T; again, starving artist.)

It also doesn't help the artist enforce the idea that THEIR work, no matter how mediocre, will still be worth something.
Factor in minimum wage + creative wage [whateverthefuck you wanna charge]
you should always be making a profit of at LEAST that. Other people don't get that.

Lol this guy didn't even give a fuck. I tried to respond to him with,
"No need for the snarky comments. Some artists are trying to make a living off of their work. If not for $xx, how much would you say it's worth?"
But the fucker had already blocked me. Given, he looks like a douchey troll from the state of his profile, but I still don't see what I did that warranted blocking me.
"that's too much money, I'll find someone else."
"suit yourself. :/ given the amount of time and effort I put into my work, I believe my prices are reasonable."
And then: trollsplosion. He could care less that I'm trying to scrape together enough funds for my bank so that when the end of the month comes my payment for that sudden pop-up of a loan actually goes through.

besides when you do start working you'll be making $20-30 an hour average, the hard part is just getting a job, but once you do you'll have more money than you know what to do with, then you go find this guy, and slap him with a wad of cash

and to top it all off:

Wow. Wow. What an uncultured ass hole. Honey, don't even listen to things like that. 90% of the people who do shit like that are not artists or artistically talented themselves. They don't know the value of art, nor the time and effort that goes into making it. Your art is gorgeous, i'm not just saying that because I'm your friend, as another artist, I respect and admire your work ♥

i don't care if i'm stepping on anyone's toes here. its obvious the guy is mean to pretty much anyone who comes near or has contact with him. and i'm just generally pissed off at the lack of respect artists have.
yes. some people do commissions as a hobby, or an extra means of cash here and there. however, there are those artists who do it for a living. i refuse to accept work where i'm taken advantage of. i've gone to school for animation, i'm returning to school for 3D, and i deserve more than mere pocket change that doesn't even cover my bills.
it'd be more worth my time to mow laws and deliver papers. see ya.
