So I was reading
this article about a chemical spill as the result of a train collision. And the following quotes jumped out at me:
"The crash released butyl acetate, a flammable liquid..."
"That is a toxic cloud as a result of that butyl acetate."
"Butyl acetate is commonly used as a solvent or as a synthetic fruit flavoring."
"Police ordered people in the immediate area to evacuate"
could someone please explain why a flammable, toxic solvent that requires evacuation when spilled is used as a fruit flavoring?
Next time you need a solvent just use ice cream.
Granted, according to Wikipedia,
butyl acetate it is found naturally in fruit, such as Red Delicious apples, but I still think this is interesting to note.
