A(nother) Week in Review

Photographing the Sunset
Originally uploaded by hazybluedot. Ah, it's an overcast, cool, damp Saturday here in Blacksburg and I have some critical coding to get done by Monday. Naturally I'm here at Bollo's chatting with people, checking my facebook events and writing in LJ. Honestly though, a lot happened the week before last so it warrants an entry.

As you may or may not know I flew up to Massachusetts to see Kerry get married. The wedding was in West Dennis, on the Cape, and it was great. Even though I had to sit through a catholic church service it was amusing to see Kyle succumb to god's power by bowing his head, muttering under his breath, waving his hands around and sticking stuff in his mouth symbolizing Catholicism's link to cannibalism. The holy water didn't sizzle quite as I expected on his way out but maybe he has a few tricks up his sleeve that I am unaware of.

The reception was held at the Lighthouse Inn which was situated in a very pretty location on the beach. The weather had been a bit overcast before the service but (miraculously?) cleared up beautifully for Kerry's wedding photos on the beach at sunset. The dinner was delicious and it was great to see Kerry's dad get drunk and dance bare foot and demanding to know if each and every person was having fun (with the threat of being kicked out if they weren't). All in all a great time and really great to see Kerry again. Her and Dave are pretty much perfect for each-other, it was great seeing their interaction. The only thing that annoyed me is that they announced the married couples including the newly weds as "Mr. & Mrs. David Folly" (replacing "David Foley" with whatever the name of the husband was for each couple). Going from "Kerry Arsenault" to "Mrs. David Folly" is a pretty drastic change and I feel a bit dehumanizing. She'll always be Kerry A. to me.

A trip to the Cape is never complete without an excursion to P-town. The Saturday before the wedding Kyle and I took a quick jaunt down there to get some dinner, watch the peoples and go see an over priced performance of Varla. We also go an overpriced DVD signed to "Chateau Rouge" and a photo with Varla herself, so really, the experience was priceless.

Sunday I drove back to Jenny and Chris' apartment in Davis Square and prepared for my Boston excursion with Becky. It was great to see Becky again and I had a lot of fun with our "eating tour of Boston" :-)

To sum the first part of that week up, it was really great to reconnect with some people and places back in MA and was really refreshing. On Wednesday I flew down to Panama City, FL to meet up with the lab folk. We were down there to scout out some areas do demonstrate our vehicles and algorithms for AUVFest which will take place there next Summer. We found a couple features in the water worth taking a second look at and will probably be taking another trip there in a couple months or so. We also saw dolphins playing in the bay one day and the weather was great the whole time we were down there. I'll just leave it at that.

Back to coding!
