Driffield Show

I finally have some time to do some updating. A couple of weeks ago Mum and I had a week off, timed so that we could go to Driffield Show. As the weather was so bad that even the Great Yorkshire Show was called off, we didn't book tickets in advance, but as it turns out all was well and we went (I even caught the sun a little)

Checking the programme and map once we got in, I made a bee-line for the alpaca, as they were quite near the gate we used.

and there was also someone spinning alpaca

I bought some laceweight alpaca, in dark brown, which I don't have a decent picture of. It is local Yorkshie 'grown' and spun. I wish I could have afforded some sockweight too, but as it wasn't even 10:30 by this stage, I decided against it.

We wandered around a few of the marquees, including the fur and feather (mostly fur, we didn't go look at the chickens) and the plants (Mum bought me a gorgeous lobelia 'Queen Victoria'), and had a look at some of the outside stuff. Mostly it was ok to walk around, but there were some places that were very wet and muddy.

Once the judging was over we had a look in the horticultural tent, I know it would be very impractical for me to enter anything into Driffield Show, but I might get myself organised for Leeds one of these years. One of the nicest things I saw was this embroidery (can you believe it only got 3rd prize?):

I also thought the winning entry for the 'Going for Gold' class in the flower arranging was gorgeous

The last thing we did was go and have a look at the sheep and cattle lines. The sheep were nice to look at,

but no where near as entertaining to watch as the goats:

Yes, at least two of them were trying to eat their enclosures!

alpaca, driffield show, sheep, holidays and days out, photography, goats
