We Have Power!

I never would have survived the dark ages.  We only lost power for two days, but I was a whiny mess.  The power went out Thursday night which was fine since I was already asleep, but getting ready for work was a little bit of a challenge.

Friday morning, all I could manage was getting washed and dressed, but didn't want to risk putting on makeup in the dark.  Fortunately, there was power at work, so I had some hot breakfast of instant taho (soybean pudding), Skyflake crackers, and coffee.  Poor Juan stayed home since school was cancelled.  Fortunately, our neighbor had a generator and was nice enough to led us some "juice" to power our sump pump.  And we needed it since water was collecting in the basement.

By the time lunch rolled around and we still didn't have power at home, I decided to leave work early to gather supplies while there was some light out.  It took us about two hours to get flashlights, extension cords and splitters from Costco and Home Depot.  There were a lot of people lining up for gasoline and the traffic was horrid, but things were decent inside the stores.  We bought one of those windup flashlights with a radio for both practical & entertainment purposes.  The extention cords & splitters were for the generator our neighbor so kindly shared.  We ran a line into the house so could warm up our bedroom w/ a space heater.  By 9 p.m., we were asleep.

Saturday morning, we went to my parent's house to drop of presents and get warm.  It was nice to get a hot shower and hot food.  I also told Juan we were not going back to the house unless there was power.  Fortunately, my brother checked on the house late Saturday night and things were back to normal, so we headed back on Sunday morning after breakfast.

I think Juan did well, considering he had a cold and had to wade through the puddle that was our basement.  I, on the other hand, was whiny and uncomfortable until we got to my parent's house Saturday morning.  I know there are people who still don't have power and am grateful for the heat.
