I just reread most of the posts visible on the first page of my livejournal.

maybe the reason I stopped writing is because they are ALL BORING. Well, except for the ridiculous photos of me and Chris and the havoc he wreaked on my room. Living next to Chris continues to be ridiculous.

in the future perhaps I'll endeavor to be shorter and more interesting. Though I doubt my life is going to get more interesting, so maybe I'll settle for shorter.

in UI nerd news (which I admit makes up a great deal of the boring material below), YouTube has started doing something new. Watch a video on fullscreen mode, and after it is done, see what happens.
BUBBLES. NETWORKS OF RELATED VIDEOS. color-coded, connections between the videos you've already watched, it is a little overwhelming at first, but after playing with it for a bit I think it is pretty neat.

I've downloaded the developer pre-release of songbird. While it's pretty clearly not ready for primetime, I think it has a lot of potential to be better than the 500 other music-management programs I installed in my quest to find something that would play nice with my ipod. Most of them suck a lot. I just want creating and editing playlists to be quick and simple. For example,
1. I'd like to be able to change the order of songs once I have put them in a playlist.
2. Searching several times in quick succession should not crash the player. Re-sorting according to a different criterion should not a) take forever b) crash the player. (also it'd be pretty hot if I could set priorities for several search criteria. Given the unnecessary slowness of everyone's sorts, I'm pretty sure it's not the actual sorting operation that's holding up the works, so sorting the list twice or three times before doing anything else probably won't make a big difference)
3. Once I have made a playlist, I would like to be able to move it to my ipod and have it show up there as an intact playlist. That can I can play. On my ipod.

these are just some of the most irritating problems I have encountered it'd be real handy if I could look at my playlist and my full music library at the same time, but that's really just a bonus.

And also "The Beatles" should be sorted with the "B"s not with the "T"s. Did you hear that, EVERYONE WHO IS WRITING OPEN-SOURCE MUSIC PLAYERS?* make your sorting less dumb! yes, that includes songbird. but maybe they will fix it before 1.0.
