From Workforce Week:

Bellyaching workers at Leipzig, Germany’s Nutzwerk are being told to can the kvetching-or else. The information technology company is so fed up with its employees’ habit of griping that it’s instituted a “two moans and you’re out” policy. Company staffers now have to adhere to a clause in their contract that requires them to be in a good mood to keep their jobs. Moaning and whining are forbidden, unless accompanied by suggestions for improving the source of the complaint.

Vice-president Thomas Kuwatsch tells Workforce Week that “several people left the company” as a direct result of the policy. Reportedly, at least two workers have been fired for violating the policy. Kuwatsch says one hour of employee whining each week, taken cumulatively, cuts into productivity and costs the company an average of 15,000 euro (nearly $17,600). “Besides the policy, we changed several things within the company as well. We do sports together, and the company birthday this year was held in Mallorca (Spain). The company pays for all these things. Many more details are changed to make the employees happy. And by (these things), people do not complain much as before.”

Kuwatsch adds: “Of course everybody is allowed to complain, but he has to have a solution or a better idea to overcome that (source) of complaining. In the end, we can enjoy our business success much more, because we do not have these people any longer in the office, who always find something negative in even the nicest situations.”
