The circus comes to town.

One thing I hate about going to vote is the gauntlet you have to thread before you even get into the building, a gaggle of party representatives all waiting to pounce on you and get your number to tick off on their respective lists. They act with all the air of meatgrinder officialdom as if they are part of the process, which they are not, they are there for their own ends and with no right to the information they summarily demand. I would probably mind less if they asked more nicely, and with more acknowledgement that it is a choice to help them, though I still don't like the use they put their lists to.

For some-one like me, who dislikes being crowded to the point of phobia, this un-welcome is really off putting and scary, and if it was any of these parties I was planning to vote for the sight of them crowding in on their previous victim today would have had me turning on my heel and leaving without voting - exactly the opposite of their reason for being there!

Today, when I refused to play their game, (rather than my normal wimp out of saying I hadn't brought my polling card, like you don't need to, when I had) one of them said loudly to the others, for the benefit of my retreating back, that I would probably get a knock on the door from at least one of them later then. Like it was a threat. Which kind of makes my point for me!

If they do turn up later to heckle me to vote they will find themselves being heckled back, but I doubt that they will. I am probably already crossed off their lists as a lost cause. When they each knocked on my door to canvas me for my vote, and got a friendly smile and the information that I would be voting 'Green', a resigned look arrived on their faces, they scribbled on their list, and shut up and went away. Apparently greens are the hardest to shift.

The Annual Circus has set up in the field come playground opposite the end of our road. Last night, as I tried out my new drought buster on the front garden I could hear occasional fanfares and garbled announcements. I get the entertainment of people watching all the families walking down the road to and from the shows.

tjprent has been sent to Paris at fairly short notice by the company. From here to there by train with only two changes - both in London! Peace and quiet for a few days, though I do have to do most of the packing for Wales at the weekend on my own as he isn't due back until we are due to be leaving.
